caber Posted June 5, 2012 #102 Share Posted June 5, 2012 Might not be so bad if he kept it to himself a bit - not that I am in the slightest bit jealous, much prefer hunt the table in Horizon Court:( We go to the main restaurant as most of the time for breakfast if we can. I can`t stand fighting the crowds in the buffet. And we usually get a table for two as I am not too talkative first thing in the morning. Unfortunately I have not had breakfast in Sabitinis. t60 Posted June 5, 2012 #106 Share Posted June 5, 2012 We were on the Grand, the cruise before Shogun. The Horizon was a nightmare for breakfast, too many people all arriving at the same time and we hardly saw anyone using the hand sanitisers. Getting a seat inside was virtually impossible. After a few days we gave up and used the dining room for breakfast, much more civilised and generally we could get a table for 2. Floflegs Posted June 5, 2012 #107 Share Posted June 5, 2012 We always go to the MDR for breakfast unless we are on an early tour. Much more civilised than the HC. We usually find we are seated with the same early birds each morning!

balcony queen Posted June 5, 2012 #110 Share Posted June 5, 2012 I hope the Maitre Di refuses Shogun breakfast at Sabatinis .To call someone a right nutter does not mean eccentric.Where I come from in Scotland this term is very insulting. cruiselvr1 Posted June 5, 2012 #111 Share Posted June 5, 2012 Hi All Well after years of trying we made to the pub lunch OK we had small wait to get seated, but that’s true of all the best restaurants, the worlds best if I recall right is in Oslo and is not even taking bookings until next year for like the year after that so a few minutes was nothing, The food excellent the service could not be improved upon, marks out 100 has to be 100 well done to the Grand Princess crew, so if cruising the Grand soon you need to try the pub lunch. Formal night very well attended not quite 100% bow ties but very high numbers, captains speech was packed out could not get any more passengers into the atrium, Weather sea at one stage had swell of 2.5m and a wind of 35 knots, but as we get close to land seas have become calm, rains have gone to weather looks better for Copenhagen than what we have had up to now. Average age of the 3800 on board is 47 that’s almost 20 years younger than the Grands last cruise. Coming up to 11.oopm good day light so going of to do some promenading, may be watch a sun set if the sun ever sets up here. So far service has been great, ships officers can be seen out and about. Which is something I like to see. Jubilee being shown in Vista on big screen and TVs in casino and others around the ship, big cake on display with atrium decked out in bunting, tonight there was a sing along as well. With IC being 24 hrs atrium is alive much later with folks coming out of late shows stopping by for coffee and snacks , there was a queue at midnight, The crew have been so friendly tonight a few that were going of shift took time to ask how my day had been want I had planned for tomorrow, now after the shift they had just done I would be wanting to go to bed, over all crew are just so nice, now little things do happen I had a cup of coffee which got spilled as the waiter was cleaning up getting new saucer another waiter bumped him and again the coffee got split, another new saucer cup cleaned, so waiter tries to deliver the coffee and this time ship moves and the coffee is split again, now waiter is constantly saying sorry, so he goes again to get another saucer and napkin he returns with a stack of saucers and napkins saying he will get this cup of coffee to me regardless of how many saucers it takes. Laughing and smiling he did make it on the forth try to get the coffee to me. If the measure of a good cruise is how quite the pursers desk is then my fellow passengers must be happy as the only people I have seen there have been ones asking for replaced cards for lost ones or for ones that have stopped working for some reason some folks are on their forth card in two days. I ordered room service at 1.00am and it was delivered as requested all within a few minutes. As to perks etc, if I am the friend of a Captain and he wants me to join him for diner do you expect me to say no, or if a maitre d wants me to have breakfast in Sabatini, or flowers in my cabin from a cruise director for my DW, I have friends who just so happen to work on Princess ships, now a few officers have family onboard is it wrong for them to enjoy all that the ship can offer, Yours Shogun 11:00 pm, my DW and I would be asleep. We are early risers.
cruiselvr1 Posted June 5, 2012 #112 Share Posted June 5, 2012 Hello Shogun and thank you for your daily updates which my husband and I really enjoy. They are helpful and I second the earlier poster who indicated that this is your usual manner on the boards, helpful and informative. I have travelled on Princess in much, much lower grade cabins and also saved up for full suites for speacial occasions. I don't mind who shares my breakfast table on these occasions,or why, I am too busy enjoying my hard earned cruise! Please keep posting and taking us along on your journeys. I agree. Mini's are closest to a suite that we have had, but who cares who sits at my table as long as they nice people.
billco Posted June 5, 2012 #113 Share Posted June 5, 2012 While we are on definitions: Name-dropping From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Name-dropping is the practice of mentioning important people or institutions within a conversation, story, song, online identity, or other communication. The term often connotes an attempt to impress others; it is usually regarded negatively, and under certain circumstances may constitute a breach of professional ethics. When used as part of a logical argument it can be an example of the false authority fallacy. Name-dropping is used to position oneself within a social hierarchy. It is often used to create a sense of superiority by raising one's status. By implying (or directly asserting) a connection to people of high status, the name-dropper hopes to raise his or her own social status to a level closer to that of those whose names he or she has dropped, and thus elevate himself or herself above, or into, present company. Name-dropping can also be used to identify people with a common bond. By indicating the names of people one knows, one makes known his or her social circle, providing an opportunity for others with similar connections to relate. As a form of appeal to authority, name-dropping can be an important form of informal argumentation, as long as the name being dropped is of someone expert on the subject of the argument and that person's views are accurately represented. dorthbill Posted June 5, 2012 #118 Share Posted June 5, 2012 If I was someone who had spent a small fortune on a suite, I think I would be more than a little ticked off if someone who had only paid for an inside cabin was sitting next to me at breakfast in Sabatinis, no matter whom they knew :( I totally agree. Look what happened on the LA/Tahiti cruise last fall. Sabitinis was so full that it was NOT the "special" place as it is on other cruises. And I love reading Shogun's post and he gives some great information, but he does brag a bit about the "perks" he gets because he is friends of someone. If he gets invited once that is fine but it sounds like he is allowed every day. NOT RIGHT. Sabatini's is about the only perk that suite people get - elites get many of them so when someone is allowed in when they pay about 1/4th of what I have paid for my suite and it is suppose to be a special perk ---YES I will get a little ticked off. Other than this - I'm enjoying your posts, and do have a wonderful cruise.

Dorset Cruiser Posted June 5, 2012 #121 Share Posted June 5, 2012 I am pretty sure envy is one of the seven deadly sins. Not envious at all. I could never afford a suite and so never expect to breakfast in Sabatinis, and nor should someone who is travelling in an inside cabin, no matter whom they know. I just think that is wrong and is unfair to those who have paid for a suite. Princess sticks firmly to the rules over most other matters to do with their cruises and staff members on board their ships should adhere to the rules as well and leave breakfast in Sabatinis to those who have paid for the right to use it. And yes, he does brag more than a little about his perks. Other than that, nothing against the man and he is very friendly and helpful to people on the boards. caribill Posted June 6, 2012 #122 Share Posted June 6, 2012 Not envious at all. I could never afford a suite and so never expect to breakfast in Sabatinis, and nor should someone who is travelling in an inside cabin, no matter whom they know. I just think that is wrong and is unfair to those who have paid for a suite. There was a thread last year about a cruise which had over a hundred gambling VIPs, probably few if any in suites. They were all given the Sabitini's breakfast perk and those in suites on that cruise were complaining how crowded it was and how the service was not as good as usual as a result. DGSFlorida Posted June 6, 2012 #123 Share Posted June 6, 2012 Getting a perk like the Sabatini's breakfast is a plus and normally doesn't affect the rest of the cruisers (unless too many are given out and service is impaired). Bragging about it here is not only discourteous but also distasteful to others.
trikeman Posted June 6, 2012 #124 Share Posted June 6, 2012 I hear a lot of complaints about how Princess doesn't care about the passengers and when they do something nice for someone, people get upset about that. Lets give it a rest for a while and just enjoy Shogun 's live report ;). I hope some day to be on a cruise with you Shogun, you always manage to have interesting things happen on your cruises.:D
