Please Critique this Skagway Excursion

We want to include the railroad in an excursion in Skagway but would like to see more. Would this be worth it? It's $70 more than doing just the RR.

Leaving the White Pass and the USA behind, you’ll enter Canada and the unspoiled and untamed beauty of the Yukon Territory. Marvel at the chain of lakes that form the headwaters of the Yukon River, explore the rustic town of Caribou Crossing (Carcross), snap a quick photo of the “world’s smallest desert,” and enjoy the tales of the Klondike Gold rush provided by your guide throughout your journey. At Caribou Crossing Trading Post, enjoy a fabulous chicken BBQ lunch, made complete by homemade donuts. During this hour-long stop you’ll have an opportunity to explore the indigenous wildlife museum, interact with sled dogs, and scan the hills for Dall sheep and bears. Once back at Fraser, British Columbia, you’ll board the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad for a truly unforgettable ride down this historic and breathtaking narrow gauge railroad.

Note: This excursion enters Canada – all participants are required to carry a valid passport or government-issued photo I.D. with a certified birth certificate. This is due to Canadian Immigration and Customs clearance in Fraser

With a one way train- be certain of your seating- you will want the LEFT side facing the engine if your leave Skagway and the RIGHT side if you leave White Pass.

This is a NCL excursion on the Dream. I'm sure other ships would have the same or very close.

Next question: Chilkoot tours has what sounds like the same excursion.However, you go on the train first and back on a "comfortable coach". Would it make any difference?

Would an independant tour company be better than the ship excursion as far as more personal, better coach transportation etc. It is less $$ as well.

We did this excursion on Princess. Sounds very similar. Go for it. You get the best of both worlds, Ride on a train and by bus you see some of the Yukon.

Taking the train FROM Skagway is preferrable as most of the commentary is on this portion, sit on the left facing the engine. This would be my recommendation. Book it if of interest to you. :)

I agree completely, the ride back down isn't as good.

I also agree with taking the ride up and the motor coach down. Have a great time!
