kayrob Posted July 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2012 I'll be on the NCL Pearl which docks in Ketchikan at 6:00 a.m. on a Friday. I'll be on an excursion from 10:00 a.m. til 12:00 noon. Any chance on doing a little shopping on Creek Street before my excursion? How early do the stores open and how far is Creek Street from the dock? Thanks so much. Rare Keith1010 Posted July 8, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2012 The walk is about 10 minutes. Stores will be open very early with ships in port. Keith

Mzhelen Posted July 10, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 10, 2012 The big Tongass store is literally right there at the dock - great for cheap fleece and jackets, fun souvenirs, t-shirts, ulus, etc. We got a coupon book that enabled us to get a really nice jacket for just $9.99 there! Ankie3467 Posted July 11, 2012 #5 Share Posted July 11, 2012 Thank you for the recommendation. We are having an easy day in Ketchikan, so shopping is number 1 :)

PiperNY Posted August 17, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 17, 2012 Mzhelen, Where did you get the coupon book? I got an Alaska coupon book in Seattle. They were handing them out at Pier 66 before we went through security.
second chance heart Posted August 17, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2012 We were in Ketchikan on Wednesday morning, Aug. 8, 2012. The Creek Street shops opened up at 9am. There were only two ships in port that day, and ours, the Coral Princess, arrived around 630am and left at 2pm. The shops close to the docks (owned by the cruise lines) appeared to open earlier. mknopick Posted August 19, 2012 #10 Share Posted August 19, 2012 You should get a coupon book prior to boarding your ship. Tongass has three stores in Ketchikan. They all have great bargains and plenty of items. As you probably know, the jewelry stores that the ship recommends are run by employees of the ship company. At the end of the season these stores shut down and the merchandise and employees move to where the ships go next. None of the money stays in the local economy. Watson's aunt Posted August 19, 2012 #11 Share Posted August 19, 2012 You don't want to be lugging all the stuff you bought . See if you can run back to ship and dropped your stuff in your cabin. You can also ship your stuff home even in you buy stuff in the 3 different stores, They are numbered 1 2 3 and you can get free stuff or cheaper stuff there.
