Layover time needed for international flight

In order to receive a helpful answer, you may wish to provide more info such as originating city, destination, time of year, examples of layover times, etc. These all factor into a beneficial answer.;)

There was a recent thread about JFK and how people were saying bad things about it, yet many (most?) frequent fliers, including myself, jumped to its defense. I personally would take JFK over MIA for clearing immigration/customs. However, as mentioned, there are more factors to it - where are you coming from, where are you connecting to, what airline, what time of the day?
