Cruisingzs Posted July 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2012 My 70 year old MIL is 5 weeks out from knee surgery. We knew going in that her endurance would be lacking and her knee strength was questionable. My parents were on the Magic in May, and told us the ramp to embark and disembark was very long a winding. The worried about her as my 71 year old mother got tired walking that far. I called Carnival ahead of time and the told me a wheelchair would be available at no charge. We got dropped by our shuttle at the porters, left our luggage and walked to the port entrance door. Sure enough, several crew members were there with wheelchairs. Only one additional person is supposed to go with her, but they let my party of 4 join her through VIP boarding. He rolled her all the way to the atrium bar and left her in a chair so we could get our barrings. When disembarking, we went to deck 5 plaza bar (by the casino) and another group of crew members and chairs were there. They rolled her all the way to the customs agent. Aparently they used to be able to roll her to the door but no more. Which was fine. She managed ok the whole week in the three ports. But that was a really long walk getting checked in and out. And most important for her, she was able to sit while we gathered our luggage and waited in the customs line. Just wanted to let people know that if you think someone in your party may need this service, it was a life saver!
firefly333 Posted July 17, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2012 It is good, but I've had very mixed results with wheelchair assistance. Sometimes it is better than other times. Just to be honest here.
