CCL just called my DW about her Diamond gifts and where to mail it...While she was on the phone with her she asked about me becoming Diamond on our next cruise...I have 189 days and our next cruise is the 17 day Spirit to Australia cruise...I've heard multiple times if you turned another level during your cruise that you would be that level when you board...It does not really matter to me as she will be Diamond already, just another answer from CCL that conflicts a lot they have told us about the new "brilliant" program.........Dennis

Today someone in special events told me there was no more past guest policy.

Just some more "brilliant" news I wanted to hear huh Stu...I was made Platinum on my 10th cruise, guess thats another thing they have taken away...Like I said it does not matter to me as DW has 207 days and she has to sleep with me...:)....So we still get unlimited laundry as we are going to need it as we are staying in Sydney another week after disembark and then a 13 day on the Dawn Princess around New Zealand.....Dennis

This is from Carnival's website. You will become Diamond on your cruise to Australia.

VIFP Club members will automatically move from one level to the next level based on their VIFP Points, and will receive the benefits of their level on each sailing.

Guests graduating into a new level during a cruise will receive the benefits of the new level they are graduating into from the beginning of the cruise (e.g. those graduating to Gold on the 3rd day of a 5-day cruise will receive Gold benefits for the entire duration of their cruise).

We're in the same boat (pun intended) as you. We'll be turning Diamond on our Hawaiian cruise in January. We've also received several different responses. Below is the latest e-mail I received. Hoping this one is correct.:)

Hi Mike!

Yes, if you are turning Diamond during your next cruise then you receive the benefits from day 1. If you have any issues you can print a copy of this email.

See you next year!

It must have not been Clarisa calling my wife....I thought I would be Diamond too but the person that called my DW said I would not be Diamond although when I disembarck I will have 206 days....It's really not a big deal to me as my DW is already Diamond and I'll sponge off of her...:)....Dennis

Just log into Carnival's site, click manage my cruise, click "view cruise documents" then "print general information".

Look down at the guest names and you should see your VIFP level:

It looks like:

GUEST

Mr Dennis LastName

VIFP#: 1292338383 - PLATINUM (or gold or red etc)

I assume that is more accurate than some of these folks answering phones. We wont "re-gain" gold status until mid way through our next cruise but it already shows gold on our documents.

I've looked there and I am listed as Platium but will reach Diamond in the middle of my next cruise....And I was asking if I would be Diamond on this cruise or the next one..The person that called my wife said I would not be till my cruise in January on the Breeze.....I was told that if you reached a level during your cruise you were that level for that cruise....Dennis

OH, I see. I would have expected consistency in that either all guests get bumped up at embarkation or none do. But I guess that's the point you're making. I get it...sometimes it just takes me awhile. :)

I remember reading in their VIFP FAQ that if you achieve a new level during a cruise that Carnival "may at their discretion" (don't remember the exact quote) move you to the new level for the duration of the cruise.

With language like that it's no wonder even their employees are confused. Good luck.

Go to your cruise documents and check your boarding pass. On mine I see the new level.

OK, I went in and looked at my boarding pass and it says VIP...Then I went into print my documents and there I'm listed as Diamond..CCL customer service is as expected, not very reliable...I'm claiming my Milestone reward on this cruise and the price just continued to drop....I'll prob get around $200 as my 25% OBC for my 25th cruise reward..:)..Dennis

I was told that you go to your next level after you completed the cruise.

When I made Platinum ON my 10th cruise I expected the same when I became Diamond..The customer service representive told my DW that I would not be Diamond although I reached 200 days during the cruise...But my cruise documents say I will be Diamond when I board the 17 day Spirit cruise...The new "brilliant" VIFP program still does not have it all together...Dennis

On the VIFP 'Terms and Conditions" it states:

Not withstanding the foregoing, in the event a Member books a Cruise in which such Member will attain the necessary VIFP Points to reach a new Level during or by the end of such Cruise (a “Crossover Cruise”), CCL may, in its sole discretion, offer such Member the Benefits offered to Members of the higher Level during the Crossover Cruise.

So I guess it will be up to each Carnival ship to decide...

I noticed about each ship deciding, I think the policy needs to be uniform with ALL ships. Of course Carnival doesn't care what I think, but I think it would cause a lot less confusion if all ships had the same policy in effect.

My husband and I are getting ready to go on our next cruise (his 5th my 4th). We will both be turning Gold ON the cruise (him on the 2nd day and me on the last) and when we look on our documents, they show both of us as Gold when we board.

LMAO, now I went into the Carnival site and looked at the Breeze cruise I have booked for January 2013 and it says I will be Platinum on that cruise...They sure spent a lot of time setting up their computer systems for this new "brilliant" VIFP program for so many people having problems with it........Dennis

Dennis: Sadly, no matter what anyone says....it could be completely different when you get to the port... :o

Hope it all works out the way it is suppose to be. You have some dear friends of mine cruising with you on that cruise. One of them will be the solo entertainer (usually in the casino). Give him a listen....he is wonderful.

His name is Doug.

What is sad is I get more correct info on CC than from Carnival reps. My Brother will have 25 days on the last day of his upcoming cruise. His PVP told him his next cruise after this one he would be gold again. Not a big deal red & gold get the same perks on a 4 day. Not sure there are any tho. He looked at his docs sure enough he is gold. It just goes to show the people who follow Carnival because they enjoy(or hate in some cases)Carnival know more than the people who are paid to know the answers.
