Princess excuesion to Tabyana Beach Roatan

We did this excursion last January. It's a private, rustic, resort type area on a beautiful, wide stretch of beach with loungers, umbrellas, water toys and snorkels to rent, etc. There is a lunch provided -- simple but good buffet of chicken, rice, beans, fruit -- as well as lockers for rent, outdoor showers, and bathrooms. The snorkeling is very good at the reef, just a short swim from the beach. There are very attentive locals walking the beach wanting to sell you beer or mixed drinks, watch your belongs and save your spot, braid your hair, or give you a shoulder massage. The people are very welcoming. It was a great day!

We did this excursion but it has been 5 years ago. We loved the beach and the people were friendly. The only thing we didn't like was the ride in the school bus. We chose not to have the lunch included in ours (Don't know if this is even an option anymore). We enjoyed lunch at a little beach bar just down the beach from the resort.

School bus? Oh, my! I guess they have invested in something better because we were driven around the island in a large van or mini-bus, not sure what it is called.

On the Princess Excursion to Tabyana Beach we were also taken in a large van/mini-bus and it was air conditioned. Chairs & umbrellas were provided. A buffet lunch was included in the one we booked. Beer (buckets if wished) , etc. were sold at the bar.

We visited Tabayan Beach two years ago while cruising on Celebrity Solstice. The beach is gorgeous. The snorkeling is as accessible as any beach you can visit. I highly recommend this beach.

Just returned from a one week land visit after visiting last year on a cruise !

From the airport (in between Mahogany Bay and Coxen Hole) we paid $25.00 total (not pp) one way to Infinity Bay which is right next door to Tabyana.

All the beaches are public on Roatan but you must use a public access. Most resorts will not allow you access thru their property. But there is a public access right down from Tabyana next door to Bananarama.

As posted, the beach is gorgeous and open to all....... there are numerous resorts with bars/restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat (the food was really good at most we ate at) and you can rent snorkel eqp., parasail, take a water taxi to West End for a bit ($3.00 pp one way) and lots of other stuff WITHOUT TAKING AN EXPENSIVE TOUR

Now you can also negotiate with a taxi driver to drive you around for pretty much the whole day for a per person price.....depending on where and how long. While on our cruise visit in Mar 2011 we paid $15.00 pp (for 3) and he took us to West End (waiting while we did a dive, ate lunch and shopped) then over to West Bay Beach (waiting while we enjoyed some beach time) and then back to the ship.

Just wanted to let you know there are options...... cheaper and more control over your day than a tour.........

Whatever you do - you will enjoy West Bay Beach if you are beach people !!!!

Guaranteed :D

From what everyone is saying it sounds like we should go here for sure. Can anyone else tell me if Parasailing is there? Because I would love to do that. Thanks for you input.

There was a parasailing boat at West Bay beach on the days that a cruise ship was in port. Other days it could be arranged but the boat wasn't right there on the beach waiting. *note - we were recently there for a week on a land visit.

I obviously have never been to Roatan, is West bay by Tabyana? Thank you for your help.

Tabyana resort is on West Bay Beach. The beach is approximately a mile long and is a gorgeous white sand, palm tree lined, turquoise blue water beach. There are lots of resorts, restaurants and stuff to do there.

Here is a pretty good map with the areas on it...... it might help you get your bearings of what is where.

We have been to almost every island in the Caribbean and we have now found the perfect one !!!! Can't wait to go back for another week at Christmas !

Picture a mile of beach. Now along that beach scatter differnt restaurants, "shacks" renting chairs, snorkel equip., a couple of nice condo resorts, "beach clubs" (glorified shacks") which might have a restaurant attached for light meals, serve drinks etc. Bananrama, Fosters,San Simeon etc. are examples of the

"clubs".

Tabayana is a just piece of the beach FULL of lounge chairs, a place to eat and have lunch, showers, lockers ( I think) that the cruise ships sell day passes to. It is all on the same West Bay beach. Just a PIECE of it. Is located right in front of the walk in snorkeling area.

So when you go to West Bay Beach it is that mile stretch. If you go specifically to Tabyana it is a piece of that beach. No matter where you park your body, you aren't tied to staying there. Just walk the whole beach and take it all in.:)

To confuse you more, when you read about WEST END, that is a little little town pretty near the West Bay beach. You can take the water taxi over to it for about 3.00. Most tours will include a stop there to hit a few little shops or outdoor restaurants.

Thank you very much for everyone's help. We have 7-9 people that may go to the resort, do you think we should just book through Princess and pay $59pp (for a buffet) or would it be better to take a taxi and get lunch at a local place? If you can take a taxi from port to get there, We have never taken a taxi from a port and we just aren't sure about getting there and back. Thanks again for everyone's help.

We took the one you described to Tabyana Beach thru Princess because it was the "easy way" and we really enjoyed it.

It's not really a resort ... just a very nice beach with a bar and food either with or without the buffet. Snorkeling is good there.

You do realize that you'll be docking in Mahogany Bay and there is a nice beach right there at n/c with lots of beach chairs provided for your use. On our last port stop on Princess to Roatan ... that's what we did because all we wanted do was go to the beach and hang out at a beach bar and we'd been to Roatan many times. We weren't unhappy with the decision and actually enjoyed it a bit more. :)

I had no clue! Do you know if they have Parasailing or do they rent Ski Doos? We were hoping to do one, if not both of them. Thank you for that info.

FInd the Carnival website of Mahagony Bay and you'll see all that's offered. It's basiclly like a private beach day. Many cruisers are totally happy with the area, and since you have a lot of people togehter, might be be the easist..certainly the most economical. You'll find more info in these threads. Have a great time. Just head back to Roatan another time when you can see more of the real island.;)
