We are trying to decide between 2 day excursions and need help. Which is better? Do you have other suggestions?

Are you meaning that you are overnighting? We did a long day tour in 2009 to the Pyramids and the Museum. If you only have one day thats what i would suggest. There is a new museum thats been under construction for a few years now at the Giza Plateau. It will eventually replace the one in Cairo. Not sure given the situation in Egypt when it may be done.

Thanks for the reply. Yes we will have 1 day. We don't feel comfortable doing the overnight. Did your guide stay with you throughout the museum?

If it hasn't changed since we were last there, the guides are not allowed to accompany you through the part of the Tutankhamun exhibition where the mask, gold second coffin etc.are kept, in the hope that people will move through a little quicker. They should point out things to look for, and meet you when you come out to see (a little of) the rest of the exhibits.

Yes she did except the room with the Funerary Mask and other King Tut items. The bus with her driver picked us up in Alexandria and she meet us at the Pyramids and was with us the entire time. She also supplied us lunch on the fly so we didnt have to waste time eating in a restaurant. We saw way more than would be possible with a ship excursion. If you need question answered just email her. Comes highly recommended from myself and the group i took.

Is there a particular reason why you wouldn't stay overnight in Cairo or Giza? You would have the chance to see so much more... The drive from Alexandria to Cairo is about 3 hours each way...

 

In any event, if you haven't already been to this forum, the Ports of Call/Africa forum has threads with tons of info re reputable private guides in Egypt.
