How much would you pay...

My partner and i just had dinner last night at The Palm in our home city of Chicago: two Ketel 1 martinis, two Stella Artois beers, one order of clams casino, one 9oz filet, one swordfish, two side dishes, a slice of key lime pie, and two Drambuie with coffee was $240 with tip. Our meal was comparable to The Pinnacle Grill but the atmosphere in The Pinnacle Grill is hands down more elegant than The Palm.

We love mdr. We think its great. What we want is the order to delivered right... When it is, we are happy campers! Not huge fans of PG, our experiences have not been great, Tamarind and Canaletto fantastic. $150 is average and we are close to higher end wineries, daily grill, mortons, rc, flemings, and hotel del. Etc. I feel hal is the best value out there. We cruise to eat. I also cook alot, and we won 3 years worth of omaha steak but funny, im not a huge steak or fish fan. Lol... Ironic.

I guess we are spoiled here in So Calif. We can get filet mignon with soup and salad drink and dessert for under twenty dollars per person. And it is very good !!! Norm's restaurant isn't fancy, but the food is good.

Omg. Norms. Its 130 and ive slept 5 hours in 48 and im starving! Love norms!

it's the most exclusive restaurant in pittsburgh... i doubt you could get a table even if i told you where is was :p

When we lived in Pgh (a lifetime ago) that would have been atop Mt Washington, but it's gone now (and for the live of me I can't remember its name - they do sy that memory is the 2nd thing to go) so that can't be it.

Wow, I'm in shock. Here, in farm country, we don't have much in the way of fine dining opportunities. We'd have to go into Chicago for that, and the city driving makes us crazy. I can't remember the last time we paid more than $50 for a good dinner out. Mostly, we dine at home ... sometimes a coffee shop ... but almost never in a fine restaurant. Maybe that's one of the reasons we so love to cruise - and one of the reasons I find the MDR to be a great place to eat. :)

^ that is a great point, cost for a meal is really based on the CoL of a locale.

Here in SE PA, if we head East towards the greater Philly area the cost is $$$ but if we head a little west towards the more agricultural area the cost is dramatically lower.

That said, cruising always has represented a fantastic bargain for the quality of everything offered to the passengers.

I live atop Mt Washington and there are still several fine restaurants here. So, you might say I'm a little spoiled having so many great restaurants within walking distance. :D

All of those places would be difficult to compare to the MDR on HAL. Most land based restaurants are not trying to feed several hundred people at a single sitting. Therefore, its a difficult comparison to make. But, I have been to similarly elegant restaurants with similar menus. I just spent some time in New Orleans and dined at four restaurants that I would categorize as "Similar" to the MDR on a HAL Ship. Arnaud's, Antoine's, NOLA and Commander's Palace. I will say the quality of the food at all 4 was better than anything I've ever had in the MDR, but the style of the menu offerings and the service standard are similar. Dinner for 2 with wine in these foour places ranged from $190 at NOLA to $320 at Commander's. That said, I can buy a much better dinner for 2 in Pittsburgh than what I can get in the MDR, for less than $100 at many restaurants.

I've dined in Pinnacle only once, and was not impressed. My steak was fine but not exceptional, certainly no better than Ruth's Chris or Morton's.

Given the positive reviews here, perhaps I'll try Pinnacle again on my upcoming cruise, as my experience may have been a one-off.

We have only dined at The Pinnacle once and were not impressed. I far prefer the main dining room. However we are not "foodies" so As long as my meal is well prepared and served I'm happy.
