heatherlyn7538 Posted August 6, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2012 Hello! A different question from the normal "casino" posts. If someone going on the cruise has a gambling addiction and is in recovery, is there a way for them to deactivate their S&S card for the casino? Grandpaul Posted August 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2012 Won't help with table games though. You don't need a card there. I wonder if you can talk to the casino manager about that. Wouldn't hurt. Hope it works out.
Cinderellasturn Posted August 7, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2012 Hello! A different question from the normal "casino" posts. If someone going on the cruise has a gambling addiction and is in recovery, is there a way for them to deactivate their S&S card for the casino? (Carnival) Hi Heather Norweign Cruise Line has a ship - The Pride of American that does not have a casino. Check other ships there may be more out there. heatherlyn7538 Posted August 8, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted August 8, 2012 Thanks for the help. We've already booked on Carnival so I might just go ask once we board the boat.
sailor_jimc Posted August 8, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2012 Maybe you can get the casino or the guest services desk to put a lock on using the sign and sail card for advances in the casino, but unless you bring NO cash, the table games are up for grabs. They don't check your card unless you are making enough or spending enough to be rated. Which is a lot of money at a table game ($25 a hand for at least 4 hours). I think your best bet is like the others said, talk to the casino host and see if they can "watch for them". The bigger question is would the person get upset if they were told they couldn't gamble because you told them not to let them gamble? Good luck. Nightengale212 Posted August 9, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 9, 2012 Also be aware there are ATM machines located in the casino and also at many port stops.
cb at sea Posted August 9, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2012 If someone wants to gamble, they will find a way. The person with the problem has to be the one helping themself. No one can do it for them.

heatherlyn7538 Posted August 11, 2012 Author #10 Share Posted August 11, 2012 It's not the tables... just the machines. And yes, the person requested I ask this question prior to the cruise (just in case the urge is there) But thanks for all the help!!

And yes, the person requested I ask this question prior to the cruise (just in case the urge is there) But thanks for all the help!! Every Casino on land has method by which you can self ban. There is usually a form and you must submit the form with passport pictures. If you printed the form from one of the land casinos and filled it out, I would then call the Carnival Casino program before boarding and ask that they honor the banning. I would also discuss it with the casino manager and even the hotel manager if you want to make sure that the sail and sign card can't be used for cash advances. Another thought is to set the person's account up with a small amount of cash and have a family member add a little more cash each day when he or she runs low. I am sure you will be able to do something to help your friend....and if your friend is in GA there are often meetings on the ship for AA but all addictions are welcomed. mina Posted August 18, 2012 #12 Share Posted August 18, 2012 carnival has the "self ban" as well -- just stop by during the "tour" hours when the casino machines are not open -- but the host is there. As them to for the "self ban".
heatherlyn7538 Posted August 21, 2012 Author #13 Share Posted August 21, 2012 Thanks a bunch Mina and Cheryl... the self ban through Carnival seems like the best route. We will try and meet up with someone Day 1..
