Does anybody know whether the Star Princess will be able to land in Buenos Aires? There is a rumour that all British registered ships will be prevented from landing in Argentina. Most people will be finishing/ starting from there.

Here's a link to a current discussion about this situation:

The issue earlier this year whereby two ships were not allowed into Ushuaia was a local government decision. Buenos Aires wasn't affected. While you'd need a crystal ball to predict what Argentina will do, chances are slim they'd block a cruise ship from docking in BA.

i was on the ship that was denied entry into Ushuia in February. We docked in BA first (there were demonstrators there) then went to the Falklands, and because we went to the Falklands there was demonstrations in Ushuai (people occupied a ship in the berth we were going to use) we and another ship were denied entry.

Although in retrospect we had a great day travelling thru Glacier Alley in Chile during the day.

It appears like things have settled down in Argentina about the Falklands right now. Note Prince William was in the Falklands when we were there and people were talking about this a lot in Argentina. so maybe that stirred things ups.

In all I would still book because it is impossible to know exactly what could happen.

Enjoy your cruise.

We have booked a number of excursions and all are cash-on-site. This works best for us, in case we have to miss a port.:(

we normally do this too, but we found on this south america cruise a few tours required deposits or at least credit card numbers. at first i was a little uneasy but then from what others were saying on our roll call it seemed to be the norm for many private tours. of course it was refundable if we missed the port

Even for our stop in Barbados this January we have to pay 50% for a catamaran tour with Silvermoon. But the norm is we don't pay anything up front

I would hesitate to agree with that opinion.

It's a long standing grievance for the Argentinians - and the current President is pushing the issue at every possible opportunity.

It's probably only on the back burner until the Olympics is over.
