Scuba Diving ... get certified or not???

I would advise getting certified ahead of time. Besides you can start enjoying diving before you go, get a few dives in for experience, & then continue the fun after your cruise. You really don't want to be concentrating on "Am I doing everything right" etc on your vacation. You will enjoy it a lot more if you have some experience in before hand.

I think the thread lost my point

 

if you KNOW you want and are able to dive ... get certified

 

but if you are WONDERing ... or not sure .... do a Discovery first. Last year I 'sat in' on dd's certification dives. Of all the folks that were there day 1 - a snotty sea day .... she was the ONLY one that came back day two, to COMPLETE the OW requirements.

 

Trying OW in poor conditions (quarry .... questionable weather) can give a very unfavorable view of diving. DD saw that last year, but a cheerleader with MANY dives helped her power through
