mikjr Posted August 10, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2012 just booked on Celebrity... it's been about 3 years since our last Celebrity cruise. I heard there were changes to the smoking policy, but all I can find is where you cannot smoke... casino, balcony, etc. where are the permitted areas? I don't smoke, but was curious as to the new policy
kitty9 Posted August 10, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Depends on the class of ship, but basically you can smoke on the port side of deck four or five, way back aft at the Sky Bar and on the port side by the outdoor pool.

We're on the Century... that begs the question... can you smell the smoke on the port side balconies, from the Port side pool??
gwilli Posted August 10, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2012 People were smoking on their balconies on the Constellation! Boy were we surprised! Rules are always broken! Yes, we did smell it.

dobes3kh Posted August 10, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2012 People were smoking on their balconies on the Constellation! Boy were we surprised! Rules are always broken! Yes, we did smell it. We too had people smoking on their balcony during an Eclipse cruise this year and I reported it to Guest Relations. I was very surprised and disappointed with the response. We chose Celebrity based on the fact they have a strict non-smoking policy. Hopefully that was a one-off with Guest Relations.

cruising teacher Posted August 10, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 10, 2012 When Celebrity first established the new smoking policy, it was vigorously enforced. First time : warning. Second time : $250 fine. On the Summit last month we reported smoking on the balcony. I actually saw her two cabins down. It happened again. Apparently now they just send a letter instead of making an appearance. I hope they continue to enforce their own policy as I have a right to sit on my balcony and I can't do it if there is smoking nearby. To those who want to smoke, try Holland America. They allow it which is why we don't sail with them.

Well said and we agree...I understand your room attendant or butler can take care of the situation if you report it better than the pursers desk.

Rare cruisestitch Posted August 10, 2012 #12 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Wasn't it ship by ship? I'm thinking that all of them had it by early 2012 but time flies when we're having fun cruising

Christine Frances Posted August 10, 2012 #14 Share Posted August 10, 2012 The total ban on inside smoking (Sky Lounge etc) was first implemented on Infinity when it came out of drydock Dec 2011.
dkjretired Posted August 10, 2012 #15 Share Posted August 10, 2012 Does anyone know when the current smoking policy was implemented? The major change which eliminated smoking in Cabins and on verandas was implemented about three years ago. Initially, smoking indoors was allowed in only a couple of places such as the casino and the port side of the sky lounge. Within a short period of time, smoking was eliminated in the casino leaving the sky lounge the only indoor area where smoking was permitted. On the M class ships as Christine said all indoor smoking was eliminated as each ship came out of their S class makeover's since the former port side area was renovated as the Fun Factory. At some point during that transition, the S class ships eliminated the indoor smoking in the sky lounge making the fleet entirely smoke free indoors. I would also like to say that I do not believe they enforced this more strictly when the new rules came out and have become lax recently as someone suggested. I believe as with many things on Celebrity, enforcement is on a ship by ship basis. The original revamping of the poiicy was in 2008.. http://www.celebritycruises.com/aboutceleb/tabLanding.do?pagename=footer_pages_about_celebrity#footer_pages_about_celebrity_press_room_tab/aboutceleb/pressRoomDetails.do%3Fevent_date=2008-04-10&event_type=press_release&sequence_code=A&pageNumber=

NorthCarolinaBelle Posted August 11, 2012 #17 Share Posted August 11, 2012 We reported a guest smoking to guest relations several times with no results. I was very disappointed. I mentioned it on the survey at the end of the cruise, and also on an email survey Celebrity sent after the cruise, with no response. We are sailing on celebrity again in Jan 2013 on the new Reflections ship. I hope they will be strict on the new ship!
Jane2357 Posted August 11, 2012 #18 Share Posted August 11, 2012 We had 3 or 4 people smoking next to us on our last cruise. I did report it but it just continued. I took my copy of the daily newletter with the warning about the rules and FINE. Highlighted it in yellow, cut it out and taped it to their door. They never smoked on the balcony again. Call me evil but I paid my money too. :p

We found quicker action with housekeeping than guest relations.Your room steward cannot do anything about it,we found that out fast.;)
