epgjon Posted March 17, 2013 #2101 Share Posted March 17, 2013 Well realistically what they should have is the area that is open to the main atrium being non smoking, because otherwise that entire open area will STINK. We actually had this thought way back when we first saw the Breakaway's deckplans. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 I have sailed twice on EPIC, and usually spend quite a lot of time at the casino. What I have noticed is that only about a third of the people playing, do actually smoke. The real problem is that, many non-gambling smokers, use the casino as a"smoking zone". A place where smoking is made easy to do so, as most public area's are non-smoking places.!!

A place where smoking is made easy to do so, as most public area's are non-smoking places.!! Yes I can see where that would happen, especially since these casinos (on Epic, Breakaway, and of course many other ships) are such centrally located venues right in the middle of the ship. It just blows me away though that they would place one of the few smoking-friendly venues right in the middle of the central open hub of the ship's common area, like, who thought that was actually an idea that made sense?? I will say it really makes me nervous, since we have very little tolerance for second-hand smoke or smoke odor. Worst ship experience we've come across with regard to smoking was on both the Allure and Oasis, specifically on the Promenade area outside of the Boleros Latin-themed club. That place was always loaded with smokers who would be sitting at the bar, which was moronically located right by the open entrance of the club area. Obviously, they weren't all there for the latin music, just that it was a centrally located spot right on the promenade where they could sit down, grab a drink and further promote the carcinoma in their lungs. But the end result was that passersby were hit like a brick wall with the smoke stench emanating from the Boleros entrance. It was extremely reminiscent of the gag-worthy blast of cologne that one experiences every time one passes with 100 feet of an Abercombie & Fitch at your local mall. Bottom line is it made us avoid that end of the Promenade every time we were in that area, and I really hope that isn't the case with this ship.

My last cruise I may have had one or two people try and smoke at my tables. It is amazing how fast the casino gets smokey and I am there at least5-7hrs a day when at sea lo

I am also a bit worried that the casino on the breakaway class ships will also be open to other decks. Not only that, but bistro is located one deck below the casino and on the same Atrium connecting the 2 of them. I am wondering the smoke is going to leak into bistro, that would not be an enjoyable dinner.
joeski27 Posted March 17, 2013 #2105 Share Posted March 17, 2013 I am wondering the smoke is going to leak into bistro, that would not be an enjoyable dinner. Well, it is a French restaurant, and last time I checked everyone says that the French do very much like to smoke, sooo....maybe it will add a touch of authenticity, lol;) But seriously, that would suck bigtime. But for now I guess we just have to hope that the brilliant minds behind the design of this ship (which is supposed to be pushing the envelope with design enhancements and technology) will have this figured out so that we don't have to spend a week aboard the "Smoke-Break-away", hehehe

Gambee...I know people have been asking you about the locations of their balconies, but I have a different question you might be able to answer. My balcony is on deck nine right above cagneys. I have been looking at some shots of the ship and it appears that the roof of the waterfront area extends further out than the balconies above. It makes it appear like our balcony is the regular size but with some type of extension. Could you give me your opinion on this? I'm not switching decks, but just wondering what you thought or anyone else out there thinks. Thanks!:)

At first after looking at a lot of pictures I thought that you had stumbled into some extended balconies. But once I found this picture I noticed that the extensions are nothing more than just extended dividers. You can see in that picture that the glass is still at the same level of the other balconies, it only the divider that extends offering a little extra privacy to those balconies. I actually think it should very nice, that would those balconies among the most private in the entire ship. Thanks for pointing that out, I have not noticed that at all. Ill see you around :)

It would be hard for my neighbor to peek around that...lol:)...thanks again.

One reason we booked an M6 is the idea of being able to just walk indoors from our cabin to the forward elevator area, and then walk all the rest of the way around the deck outdoors, just like a seaside boardwalk, complete with shops and restaurants. The only thing that worries me is the amount of smoke we might have to go through, passing by the cigar lounge and any other smoking venue. Do you know if NCL hs posted which parts of the Waterfront will allow smoking? On an unrelated subject, today was the first day I really looked closely at the artist renderings, floor plan, and description for the M6 cabins, and I'm really impressed. Except for the usual couch-that-looks-as-hard-as-a-rock, everything seems really nice. It looks like the mini-suites don't have bathtubs, but the showers look great; in fact, the whole bathroom looks great! I noticed that, although the descriptions for the mini categories show that they're all the same size, the descriptions of the spa minis and the minis with large balconies say that the two beds can be converted to a king, while the descriptions of the other mini categories say the two beds will convert to a queen. I wonder if that's correct. . I also wonder if there will finally be electric outlets near the beds. I think I'm becoming obsessed :o
bob brown Posted March 17, 2013 #2110 Share Posted March 17, 2013 They may have changed some of the public areas since the original deck plans, but staterooms are basically set. I wasn't aware of this.....are the current plans shown on the NCL website correct?

Automation Posted March 17, 2013 #2112 Share Posted March 17, 2013 Thanks shoreless, I did not notice that before. Some of the minis are listed as king beds, while others say queen bed. Also family minis list a bathtub.

And will all those kids be in their cabin doing homework? I wonder if the parents will be reimbursing the school district the cost associated with the free public education they are missing? KrystalWaters Posted March 17, 2013 #2118 Share Posted March 17, 2013 Since we are all excited....question for the group... What are you looking forward to doing the most on the Breakaway/Getaway? Rare www3traveler Posted March 17, 2013 #2119 Share Posted March 17, 2013 I am doing the Maiden Voyage of the Getaway. The VERY FIRST place, I will head upon boarding will be the lobby and the Guest Services Desk and sign up for the Officers Dinner. I am in hopes that a couple of very special (at least to me) Senior Staff members will be already on board and I can get a chance to talk with them. After that spend few hours checking out the ship. Our room is always ready because we don't get to port before 12 or 12:30. Also helps that we like to book suites, and haven area is very neat.:)

Where did you find them? The NCL site seems to be very confusing lately. Depending on the pathway I take I get to a couple of different pages describing the staterooms, (and both of them show a mix of queens/kings for the minis), but neither one has cabin/balcony breakdowns or anything called "amenity descriptions". I'm sure there are other pathways/pages I haven't found yet :)
