Pam in CA Posted August 21, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2012 With Princess, booking can be transferred to a TA immediately after booking and anytime prior to final payment.Have no idea about Carnival or RCCL but with HAL or Princess, just call or send an email to your TA to let them know you've booked, the ship, cruise and booking #. You probably just need to give them your booking # but I prefer to give all the info I can. They'll pick it up and give you their price for what you've booked. biker1972 Posted August 21, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2012 Celebrity, and I believe RCCL, have a time limit of 60 days after booking to make the switch. After that you can't switch.

caribill Posted August 22, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 22, 2012 Does anyone know the "rules" on how long after booking with cruise line you can change to a TA? Princess, RCCL, Holland America, Carnival.Thank you For Princess you can do it anytime before making the final payment. Some TAs have "group space" booked, so it you wait too long they may have already sold their allocated space and not be able to give you the lower group space pricing they can offer. t60 Posted August 22, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2012 Well, it didn´t work for us !!! We booked on board and were told we could transfer when we got back (our original cruise had been booked through Princess as we wanted to change TAs) Anyway when we got back to change cruise over to TA we normally had used in the past, they were happy to accept the booking but when they contacted Princess UK were told we had to cancel our original booking and re book through the TA, but our original cabin assignment couldn´t be guaranteed. This seemed odd, so I contacted Princess UK and they confirmed what the TA had told us!!! Our TA is a large well known one in UK specialising in cruises Sandy in Spain
lady_cruiser Posted August 22, 2012 #10 Share Posted August 22, 2012 I just did that, Royal Caribbean told me I had 30 days to request a transfer. Here is the form that I used - http://www.royalcaribbean.com/content/en_US/pdf/TA_TransferForm.pdf

I booked a couple of cruises on a Princess Cruise in May and transferred them to a TA a couple of weeks later.
RoofingPrincess Posted August 22, 2012 #13 Share Posted August 22, 2012 Celebrity, and I believe RCCL, have a time limit of 60 days after booking to make the switch. After that you can't switch. I was able to on RCCL. I booked my Canada/New England cruise directly with RCCL back in March 2011, and switched it to a TA in the spring of this year. Maybe it was just a case of my TA pleading our case in some special way, but it did happen...
akruz Posted August 22, 2012 #14 Share Posted August 22, 2012 Does anyone know the "rules" on how long after booking with cruise line you can change to a TA? Princess, RCCL, Holland America, Carnival.Thank you I am so new to all this transfer stuff as I have never heard of it till c.c. Through inexperience used a small town TA and paid the price no perks. So now I am tired and poor from that. Only did 3 cruises! Is my thinking correct on this.... I book with Princess (whoever OR whatever cruiseline) AND I AM NOT ON THE SHIP.......I phone for the cruiseline for a certain cruise, date, ov category stateroom #... than step #2 within time period..check the TA biggies who are giving perks and ask them to take over the reservation and I would pay them the price I was given by Princess, etc and maybe the TA biggie will give me a better price with perks and than I pay the price the TA biggie quotes me with perks and give the full payment balance to them. Some where in all this i will have to pay deposit, too? How many times can you transfer from cruise line to one biggie TA and if you find better another TA till full payment? It would be nice if the seaoned cruiser would help clarify this as we all had to learn the process somewhere. On Celebrity while on ship she said to me if I book with their perks and trfr over to another TA I would loose their perks and would have to take the perks of the TA and the cruiselines would be nullified. So you can see how a newbie to this transfer stuff could get very confused:confused::confused::confused::confused:

So you can see how a newbie to this transfer stuff could get very confused:confused::confused::confused::confused: Here it is nice and easy. 1. Book your cruise with Princess 2. Shop for a better price and keep your cruise with Princess 3. Keep watching prices and if fare goes down call Princess and get lower price. 4. Turn cruise over to TA who will give you a lower price and some sort of perk. Perk could be wine, or photo, or OBC, or 2 or more. Or sometimes the lowest price cannot get any other amenities, but your price has been lowered so much you don't care. 5. Keep watching prices and if fare goes down call your TA and get lower price. 6. Turn booking over when you want right up to almost final payment. 7. Be sure the TA you choose charges no service charges for anything and also the fact that your payment is not made to them. When you use a credit card the payment is charged to Princess. Never pay by cash or check to any agency. 8. Your deposit is your deposit. If you have FCC it's only $100. If not, usually 20%. Did I cover it or do you have any other questions? Pia that was very nice of you to help me and now need to fine tune in on some questions. Please be patient with these questions. First question - #4. when you say turn it over is it the same as #6. turn booking over. I must understand that for #6 Second question- #6 you are saying when you find the right price you can turn it over from Princess or TA to TA almost to final payment. Third Question - How many days after booking with cruiseline do I have to turn over to TA. Do I ask at time of booking or can I find that out somewhere on cruise website. Fourth Question - #3 do I watch the prices only on princess website or do I search the princess prices on TA websites and princess will match the TA pricing for that princess cruise. Finally what does FCC stand for. Wow I have so much too learn and thank you Pia for your nice and easy 101. I am very thankful for helping me and whoever needs this type of info. Pia1913 Posted August 23, 2012 #18 Share Posted August 23, 2012 Pia that was very nice of you to help me and now need to fine tune in on some questions. Please be patient with these questions.First question - #4. when you say turn it over is it the same as #6. turn booking over. I must understand that for #6 Second question- #6 you are saying when you find the right price you can turn it over from Princess or TA to TA almost to final payment. Basically the same thing. Turn it over right away or wait until you are ready. Third Question - How many days after booking with cruiseline do I have to turn over to TA. Do I ask at time of booking or can I find that out somewhere on cruise website. There is no time frame. You can do it any time you want; one day or months. Just do your booking over the phone and not on the website so you have a live person with whom to ask questions. Fourth Question - #3 do I watch the prices only on princess website or do I search the princess prices on TA websites and princess will match the TA pricing for that princess cruise No. Princess will not match any other prices. It is your duty to find the best price. They give you the initial one, then it's up to you to get a discount. When you find the right TA you won't have to bother checking websites. When Princess lowers their price, your TA will lower it too. If you ask. Finally what does FCC stand for. FCC is future cruise credit. You can only buy them while on a cruise, it's $100/pp for each one and it's good for four years for any future cruise you book. That $100 becomes your only deposit amount no matter what the price of the cruise and if you cancel before final payment it's fully refundable. You have four years in which to use it and if you don't it is still fully refundable. I always have at least six on hand, Wow I have so much too learn and thank you Pia for your nice and easy 101. I am very thankful for helping me and whoever needs this type of info. Happy to help whenever I can.
