sk8teacher Posted September 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2012 We are booked on the Danube Waltz cruise December 1, and will be in Budapest on December 7. We have someone picking us up that day, and they would like a more specific docking location (pier number perhaps?). Their website only says "between the Chain Bridge and Elisabeth Bridge on the Pest side". If anyone knows a more specific location we would greatly appreciate it. ReturnCruiser Posted September 1, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2012 When we went on this cruise in September 2011, the boat was docked nearby the Sofitel Hotel. This was just about at the end of the Chain Bridge, on the Pest side.
sk8teacher Posted September 1, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted September 1, 2012 Appreciate the response. Looking at Google maps, it looks like the first two docks from the Chain bridge would be for river cruise ships, as the next two appear to be permanent docks. Do you recall which one was Vikings? cbb Posted September 1, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 1, 2012 I don't recall a specific dock for each river cruise company. Your pick up people will be able to see "Viking" on the side of the ship and can easily find you. In fact, as you walk along the lovely street by the river you will be able to see all of the cruise ships although in December there probably won't be as many ships as there are in the summer months. The description that the company has given you is fine and you'll be easily found so don't worry and enjoy one of my favorite cities. Be sure and go to the Buda side as well! c
Rare LHT28 Posted September 1, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 1, 2012 When we were in Budapest in June Viking had 2 ships docked very close to the Chain Bridge on the Pest side then there are some restaurant boats & we saw some Avalon ships closer to the Elizabeth bridge We were on the Buda side on Scenic ship

GiannaD Posted September 3, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2012 The river boats all dock in the same area on the Pest side but there is no specific dock for each company. The exact location depends on when the ship arrives and how many other ships are in port. In many cases in the warmer months the ships are "rafted" with boats tied up next to each other and passengers must walk through other ships to reach the shore. Viking will not know the exact location until the ship arrives and the dock master assign them a location. We have docked there twice in the fall and been "rafted" both times. I don't know how many ships are on the Danube in December. You may have to call or text the people meeting you after you dock.

bphman Posted September 4, 2012 #10 Share Posted September 4, 2012 It can vary but the Viking ships were all on the port side near theChain Bridge in front of the Intercontinental. Ama was on the opposite side near the ELizabeth bridge.
cruisingrammie Posted September 27, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 27, 2012 In June, we were right by the Chain Bridge on the Pest side, but there were no particular numbers or names to the "parking" spots! :) Very easy walk to the funicular and the Chain Bridge right on the river. Budapest is a beautiful city! Enjoy!
