They punch a hole in the corner and thread it onto a lanyard so it's easier to keep track of when playing the slot machines.

 

I keep one end clipped to my little purse that I carry while the card itself is in the machine.

I get mine punched at the pursers desk soon after I board, casino is still closed and I want it on my neck right away.
