Using credit card rewards to cruise Carnival ?

We have a discover card that will allow us to use $40 of our cash back points to get an $80 e certificate for Carnival. Has anyone ever done this? If our cruise is already paid in full, can these certificates be used as an OBC? If not, no biggie, I can easily book another cruise! ;)

I would call and find out if you have to have booked a certain rate or if its good for all rates.. or if you have to book thru their TA. Some of these have strings. Call your card holder and ask if no one here knows.

 

If you find out any answers, post them. I dont have a answer for you.

We got a $100 certificate before with credit card rewards on a Mastercard. It had to be used for a new booking (we already had a booking and had hoped it would be able to be applied toward balance or OBC). Used it for next cruise. The certificate had to be mailed in to Carnival (certified mail) within a certain date of the final payment. I found it a bit cumbersome to redeem. I'd definitely read the fine print or call Carnival.

Best to call credit card company and find out the rules.

Blah! So the rules are 1)certificate per room and 2)it has to be booked through a specific 800 number/website

You could always go dollar for dollar and get the discover gift cards and use them on your S&S acct.

I have used Discover cash back twice. You must book thru their agency listed and use your Discover card for payment.We even used a future cruise certificate and a casino rate with them in addition to the points certificate. It went real smoothly.
