Finally, Navigator review, May 7th, 2005

Recommended Posts

Oops! Somehow this part of my review ended up in the wrong part. This should have been in the St. Thomas part, LOL.... that'll teach me to read my own review, LOL...

We walked through Havensight Mall, and I was sort of looking for a small set of Binoculars. I had wanted a pair when we were in the other ports, but never saw any that I liked. I went into this shop, oddly, called Royal Caribbean, no relation, I am sure. I asked to see a pair with 10X, and the guy tried to talk me out of them, and on to a pair that was 8X, which I did not find comfortable at all. I kept going back to the 10X...just liked them better. Plus, the other pair were NASCAR themed, which I am not into at all. The NASCAR ones were $45.00, and the ones I liked were $85.00. But he kept trying to get me to buy the cheap ones, so I finally said, let me ask you something, as a salesman, why wouldn't you want to upsale me on these....he had no answer, so I said I would take the $85.00 pair.

He and another guy had their backs to me, when they were getting them ready, so I got suspicious as to what they were doing. I checked the box carefully before we left the store, and could see nothing amiss. That is, until we got back to the room, at which point, I noticed that they had removed the price tag.....and so once again, the Cybercabin comes in handy.....I googled the binoculars, thinking that maybe they had only said they were $85.00, in an attempt to get me to buy the cheap ones. To my surprise, they were all over the internet for $89.00. So I was ok with that. The only thing I can think is, that either they had no profit on the ones I got, or the other ones were stolen, LOL. But they are nice, and I did use them a lot on the way back, and to Nassau.....

I was hoping for table service tonight at 8.30, but no chance now I'm back on dry land!

It was great to meet everybody and can't wait for the next one!

Just jealous that one of the couples on our table are still on Navigator as they did a back to back - lucky people!

LOL...I hear ya! I am going back soon. I feel like I didn't do all that I wanted to do, maybe because of my foot, I don't know. But next time, I plan to have more of a nightlife, LOL. :) I didn't want to sleep at all, heck, I can do that when I get home.....LOL

I did consider doin a B2B next time, but I think that will have to wait until I retire, LOL....

Great review, glad you had a great time. You left out something though. How all of the smoke and smokers made you sick-LOL

No, what we really want to know is if she returned to her wicked ways of the past to teach a lesson to all those non-smokers!! :D

LOL, yes, I did. On a few occasions.:D But not to teach anyone a lesson, LOL, just because I felt like it.;) AND, I did mind the specific areas when I did.:) I did find the Casino, and other bars to be a bit smokey though, so we avoided them. Mostly because of the friend I was cruising with. She is a non smoker.

Just a couple of things I forgot to mention;

The Casino

After reading much on this board, I decided that I would only donate $20.00 to them, which I did in about 10 minutes, playing the $1.00 slots. My friend however, started with $20.00, and ended up with $30.00, so she was happy about that. I love Blackjack, and am normally a winner here, but for some reason I had the feeling that I would loose on the ship big time, so I just said NO, LOL.....

The Elevators

I am not sure if I lost my sense of humor about day 5, or if people were just starting to be rude, but there is such a thing as elevator ettiquitte, and I don't think that some people onboard knew what it was.

This is what you're supposed to do: When the elevator arrives, people waiting to get on, should stand back to let others empty out, before charging into the elevator!

This was our biggest issue with the elevators after a few days. People were not doing this. As soon as the door would open, they were trying to get into a full elevator, while others were trying to get off.

I felt like people were just starting to put their manners away as they began to get comfortable. Maybe it was going on from day one, and I just didn't notice, but it got really bad the last few days. We never had any problems with kids on them, or racing them, but did see a few laying in the glass elevators riding them up and down on the last day, LOL.

Oh, and one other thing I found funny. People would walk up to the elevators, see that the direction(up/down) button was lit, but they would push it again anyway, LOL, as if it would maek it get there faster......happened over and over again.

Balconies

Not sure if people know, or if they care, but I thought I would mention that voices really carry out there. Our first morning at sea, there were many people on their balconies, talking I could hear most all of their conversations. If they were talking in a normal speaking voice, you could barely hear them. But anything above, I could hear it all.

Things I did not do/visit...

Golf, Rock Wall, Cafe Promenade, Vintages, Two Poets, Schooner, Dungeon, soft-serve on pool deck, Chops, horse races,

Funny story, my friend and I decided to walk around the entire ship one day. Well, we had a conversation before we left about not wearing light/white clothes, because they would just get dirty. She said that she always had something happen to her wearing light colors. So the morning we decided to walk all of the decks, we were at the back of the ship, can't remember the level, but we were looking out over the back of the ship, at the wake, when all of a sudden, we hear a motor start up.

There was a crew member right behind us, and he was messing with some cleaning stuff, but we didn't really pay too much attention to him. Once we heard the motor start up, we were SHOWERED with this black soot, LOL...there was a pipe right above us, the ONLY one we could see, LOL, and my friend was wearing a light yellow shirt, LOL....she was a gasp! Her mouth wide open, with a look of shock and horror on her face! I wanted to laugh, but she was so mad, I though better of it. A few nights later at dinner, the topic came up, and I started lauhing so hard, that my make up ran....so just a word up, here is the pipe, don't stand under it, LOL. (I took a picture of it for posterity, LOL) I think it's used for the pressure cleaning onboard, not sure though. You can actually see the black soot trailing from it.

Hello 1Corona!We are looking into taking this cruise next summer. Maho Beach looked awesome. How come none of the taxi drivers want to go there? How far is it from the port?

It's not that it's that far, (just takes a while to get there) but more beause they want to do tours with more passengers, so they can make more money for the day. What I wanted to do would have meant the driver would have had to be with us all day, and not able to make any more money than the $80.00 we paid him. Fortunantly, there are independent drivers who will do it. Some of these tours have upwards of 10 passengers in their cars, so they make a lot more. Plus, we were asking them to kill a couple of hours while we were there.

You just have to find someone off the beaten path I think. I got Dusty's phone number, and will probably call him next time I am there if I have a problem gettting someone in January. BUT, I would say to be careful with who ever you choose. Go with your gut. :) If it feels right, do it, if not, pass, and look for someone else.

Can anyone see the pic I posted above? If not, right click on it, go to properties, and copy the url. paste it into browser search bar. I can never see these after I post them? Either the url expires, or it's something funky with webshots....or CC. It shows in the first few minutes, then it's a red x for me.

Great review!!! I can't wait until next weekend!!

Hey Sheila, can you make a mental note on the Promenade, and what changes they are making/made to it. Peter said that it is in dry dock now, and there will be some changes to the Promenade. I'd be interested in what they changed!

Thanks! And I hope you see this post before you go.:)

Yes, I will definitely post the changes. I was on the Mariner last year so I have something to compare it to. I've also studied the Navigator's deck plans so I'll remember. I'm sure my DH will also. Again, thanks for the very comprehensive review. I felt like I was on the ship with you!

Thanks all. Now I am really bummed. My friend does not want to go in January. I have changed to the May 6th eastern.:( I really didn't want to wait that long to cruise again, but if she is not happy, she will cut me in small peices, and use me for chum, LOL. Guess I have to change my cruise clock now...:(

I did notice on RCI's website that they are now showing "Weekend Warriors" sports bar where they once had "Vintages". I hope that they are making this move. On my cruise Vintages was almost always empty. If you happen to notice this on your cruise please let us know.

Thanks

Great review & pictures!

I was disappointed to see NOS parked in St Thomas on her port side! All other pics I have seen she was parked on the starboard side. That is one of the reasons I have chosen a port cabin. I hope she will stick to the "norm" on my cruise 6/4/05.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they did that, but I enjoyed it.:) I have port side on the next one...because I missed a few things last time, so I thought I would change.
