Complainers

Ok, I will start this by saying I have only been on one cruise so far, and we will be going on our 2nd in December.

That being said I have done a TON of reading on this site, as a lot of people have a lot of good information to share.

What I don't understand is people who jsut come here to complain. I understand that not everyone has a wonderful time (although personally I don't see how that is possible on a Cruise) but people who continually complain about how people dress, the food, the entertainment, the staff, the rooms....everything under the sun, why do they even cruise?

Nothing is going to be perfect, but why would you let little things ruin your vacation? Most of us wait all year...possibly longer than that to have a vacation, I would never let a bad meal or some rowdy kids ruin my entire trip.

Furthermore, if all you are going to do is bash Carnival....why come here? why waste your time?

....just my thoughts.....

Some people just can't be pleased.

Some people expect perfection.

Some people are unrealistic.

"Crap" happens; roll with it. If it's really bad seek correction.

Most of the time you will get satisfaction. The cruise ships don't want bad press. Give them a chance.

i can see a certain level of complaining. i look at it more as someone giving advice or making a recommendation or simply giving an opinion.

but i do realize the "person" that you're speaking of. my opinion of "them" is some people are not happy unless they are complaining about something.

final thought......... i'm happy i'm not one of "them"

The hardest thing to do is a site like this and maintain it's positvness...yet secure ability to be up to date and chat and debate all things about cruising..keeping one's true opinions and sharing to hopefully keep cruislines best meeting our needs too.. I cut my teeth on blogging here and had some hard lessons..embarassing ones..ones to forgive...myself and others for...there are going to be tons of personalities here..some your cup of tea and some not...

I have only had about 6 or 7 now myself between 20 and 52 and do not yet "share bills"...and planning for retirement..or needing to retire ever..LOL...a constant worry.

I have come to understand each few months complexion of things change and sharing here ebbs and flows...

Just like cruising or life...we all have things we can and can not control...Mother Teresa said change never happened complaining or talking about what you do not want...only by being and modeling what you do...

If you want a happy free speech site with honest pros and cons..be someone modeling that..stop being tired about what it was or is and make it what you want it to be...

A lot of people complaining also have been a big part of.."being right" whatever that is in some back and forth one upping each other...and that created this too...

Off my soap box. OP I understand your frustration..but these kinds of threads will not get us what we want...only modeling what you want will..and then it will grow or come back as folks wish...we all make it or break it here...sarah

What do you call a complainer about complainers? And which is worse?

Some people just cannot be happy or helpful without complaining. Sad isn't it. You are getting ready to sail or are sailing and people hate you. LOL

Hopefully a very few feel like this and they are often the loudest...

I keep excited dreaming, being here with long waits inbetween and i bet many do..until they have shorter and shorter waits and more to offer!!

The complaining does bring us down a little. I think the complaining has more to do with the changes. They feel they are not getting what they used to. And to be fair they have some points. I think the main problem is we as people overall are very resistant to change. Whether it is on the job or at home, people don't like change. We have to accept it, as much as we don't like it, that things evolve and the changes may be good or bad but we have to move with it or get left behind.

I know I complain about the entertainment, service and the food only because I have been on over 29 carnival cruises in my life and each one in the past 10 years has more cut backs, its just disppointment to me, nothing more. I never had a bad Carnival cruise but I had much better cruises where those items I mentioned above were just much better on the other cruise lines.

Yes, Im going back to Carnival to see whether the larger newer ships offer better and more and just maybe they will satisfy everything I expect in a cruise. If not, I probably see RCI or another cruise line next year, but I can't tell yet until I experience the Dream this week. I do expect better than the smaller ships.:o

I understand the frustration over those who seem to complain or are negative. However, I find this site so useful because people do give their honest opinions and feedback. There is a fine line between nit picking and griping to giving constructive critcism and informing people of changes or problems.

I was told when I first said I was reviewing things on Cruise Critic to take everything with a grain of salt. People will complain about anything and over exagerate everything (good or bad).

Life is what you make it. Be happy or be sad but that is your choice. After going through Dialysis for 4 years and a transplant 2 years ago - I realize that there is no use complaining - it is what it is - and all that matters is what you do with what you got. Crying didnt make my kidney failure go away - all I could do was take care of myself and be glad that it was caught before it was too late.

If there is a line at the buffet - dont complain or whine - do some people watching or meet the person in front or behind you - complaining doesnt make the line move quicker. If the guy next to you in the MDR is dressed to go to the beach on the formal night - just blow it off - you cant control everyone (and this is coming from a Type A control freak at work).

Maybe I am too simplistic and maybe i dont always following my own advice ... but I am trying. We leave in a week and a half - I plan to relax and have a good time - maybe the food wont be great - but I didnt have to make it. maybe the lines are long - I could be in the unemployement line instead of the buffet line.

Happy cruise all - and as my mom always say - "Dont let the bastards get you down!!!!"

Its one thing to complain about food and such but its another thing to complain about lines, what people wear and not wear, the service, etc.

Service everywhere is a hit or miss.....lines are everywhere just part of daily life whether you commute bus/railraod or go to an airport and even a cruise ship port or at a busy restaurant on a weekened. Who cares what others wear and who cares what people think I wear its just not worth the stress.

am-mc good for you being strong and knowing how not to let stress get to you. I fought cancer back in 02 and learned how to say "oh well". I do love my cruises and still are disappointed in the food on Carnival but guess what....there is the Steakhouse and yes, we have four evenings reserved so all will be great, no problems, no stress just a great cruise. :D

We always go into a cruise excited, but needing to accept that not everything will be perfect. As others have said, go with the flow and seek out a good time.

ETA: While I find some complaints valid, others would do well to accept that stuff happens, and adjust. Don't let a little thing spoil your vacation!

THANKS A LOT. I DO UNDERSTAND THINGS GO WRONG. Life is too short to sweat the SMALL stuff. We leave on the LEGEND Sunday. We have been on several cruises and can"t remember what went wrong . I know some things did but I forgot about them a long time ago. I am SOOO ready to cruise. If I run into any of those COMPLAINERS ON OUR CRUISE . I WILL SURE SAY THANKS BUT no THANKS . Having too much fun to bother with you.

I think that it's all a matter of opinion and perspective. Mine is that of a person who works in transportation on-board services (sleeping car train attendant on long-distance trains in the U.S.A.)Each person has their own expectations and no cruise line can measure up 100% of the time. But having said that...... I started cruising in 1989 when white cloved stewards took your hand bags and escorted you to the cabin when you boarded, a full sit-down lunch was served in the MDR on embarkation day, the Bon Voyage was about throwing streamers and confetti as a jazz band played (not like today's thinly veiled excuse to push booze sales with "Celebration" blaring poolside. And poolside music was background music, not played at stadium concert decibels.

The "complaints" I have seem valid to me beacaue each year I notice more and more cutbacks in food, service, attention to detail, general crew attitude. The cruise lines seem hell bent on dumbing/watering down the actual on-board experience.
