Rare LHT28 Posted September 27, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2012 It is a complex complicated system ;) It all depends on the specific cruise & how many people cancel, get upgraded, moved off etc... You could even clear the list a month before sailing
timandnancy Posted September 28, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2012 I just signed up for the 9/19/2013 cruise Barcelona to Lisbon (Jacques Pepin is on this cruise). They said there were only balcony suites available at about $4500 p/p. I was looking for the lowest inside cabin, they put me on waitlist, I did not put down any money, which they said would prioritize me. In 2 days the waitlist cleared, got a cabin for about $3400 total. I paid around $2600 for the other 2 Oceania 10 day trips I took, so this was a little more than I usually spend. I actually took an upgrade on the last cruise (Baltic, 7/2/2012, 10 days, Copenhagen to Stockholm) , to a balcony suite. I went out on the balcony once or twice, I really didn't see a huge difference in the room. In short, I'll stick with the cheap rooms. Biggest drawback though is you are last to make reservations in the specialty restaurants.
