mrsdoc3 Posted October 22, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2012 My thin 16 year-old son gained 9# on the Legend a couple of years ago (he's 18 now). I'm thinking because of the 2-3 cheeseburgers he had for lunch every day + the one he had for a midnight snack every night; and there's also the hourly runs for ice cream! This past March on Celebrity, same son didn't gain any, even eating two entrees for dinner every night. He said the cheeseburgers weren't as good on Celebrity (and this was even before Guy's on Carnival), and the ice cream wasn't 24 hours on Celebrity. On one cruise I took with DH, he acually lost a couple of pounds.
sweetcurves Posted October 22, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I lost a couple lbs on my 6 day cruise. All that walking, doing stairs, and my inability to eat more than about 1 cup of food at a time helped immensely. I also drank probably 2-3 gallons of water a day. Colorado Kat Posted October 22, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I eat more than normal, but I also walk a lot on a cruise. I typically don"t gain weight.
MrPete Posted October 22, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2012 11 pounds in 1993, sailing with another couple that liked to eat. Probably had 2 entrees every dinner, went to every midnight buffet, and then also the late late buffet at 1:30.
MsMot Posted October 22, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Typically I gain up to 10 pounds. I made it a point to lose a few pounds before my September cruise to account for what I thought I would gain, but I didn't gain an ounce and I didn't turn down desserts or those delicious frozen cocktails while vegging on the Serentity deck.:D
mikeysed Posted October 22, 2012 #8 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I've gained 5 last cruise on Dream. Brother gained 14 lbs (he dieted before and let lose on the boat lol). If you saw pics of the 1st day, and then pics on last day.. you can see the weight he gained. He always had food in his hands.
noleswin Posted October 22, 2012 #9 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Gained 9lbs on the Freedom that debarked on 10/14. I think mine was from the open bar card more than the food. It was hard but I got it off as of this morning.
Bill Millam Posted October 22, 2012 #10 Share Posted October 22, 2012 On April 25th 2012 we left California for a 4 day Florida vacation, followed by a Transatlantic cruise originating from FLL, that was followed by a beautiful 7-day Mediterranean cruise, which in turn was followed by a land-based vacation to various European/Mediterranean destinations. We returned home on June 14th and I was 30 lbs heavier!!!!!
YubaSutter Posted October 22, 2012 #11 Share Posted October 22, 2012 The most I've gained on a cruise was 1 pound on a 10 day cruise.
re-re Posted October 22, 2012 #12 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I gained 6lbs on vacation, but lost it within a week after returning home without dieting so i think it may be water weight.

SMSACE6 Posted October 22, 2012 #14 Share Posted October 22, 2012 Gained 9lbs on the Freedom that debarked on 10/14. I think mine was from the open bar card more than the food. It was hard but I got it off as of this morning. I gained 8 lbs also on my 8 day Freedom cruise two years ago! But funny also, I had gotten one of those "drinks on us " cards in the casino on day three, and yes I did make use of it!:D Alcohol is a killer for those who are watching their weight. Of course I lost it again very quickly once I got back home and in my regular routine. No more long island ice teas!:( Otherwise I usually only gain a lb or two, and once even lost a few lbs. So watch out for the alcohol, if you are worried about weight gain.
JdoggCruiser Posted October 22, 2012 #15 Share Posted October 22, 2012 17#, 4/2010 8 days to colon, limon, cozumel. Usually up a few or down a few. Eat like a king.
coasterjan Posted October 22, 2012 #16 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I remember one of the trivia questions onboard being about the average amount of weight a cruise passenger gains per day, and the answer was 1.5 pounds. That's per DAY. :-) I'm usually pretty close to that, hubby and I both usually gain about 10 pounds on a 7 day cruise. One cruise, I gained 15, but I'd lost 20 in the 2 months before the cruise. (Note that we are very active, with lots of walking, lots of swimming, lots of scuba diving, etc. We just don't eat like that at home!) On the plus side, we usually get back to our regular weight just about as quickly once we get home and get back to normal. Coaster Jan
golfb4cruzing Posted October 22, 2012 #17 Share Posted October 22, 2012 We try and take off 5 or 10 before we go and not worry. Our first cruise I gained 10 because of buffet hypnosis. We've learned over the years to sample smaller. Now maybe a pound or two in 7 days.
Bill Millam Posted October 22, 2012 #18 Share Posted October 22, 2012 I'm sure a good chunk of that was water weight, no? I only WISH that was the case.....I am still "suffering" the consequences of the wonderful cruise food and the "Mediterranean diet" lol.....:D To make things worse, on Wednesday we are off on a 14-day cruise to Hawaii on the Golden Princess. thephantomsgirl Posted October 22, 2012 #23 Share Posted October 22, 2012 My last cruise I didn't gain any, and I was surprised. Probably because I didn't eat many deserts, and never ate to a point of being uncomfortable. Since then I've lost 40 pounds, and I sure would like to not gain much during my January cruise. Might be tough cause I want to try that WMC!! I guess the best way is to be as active as possible.

Might be tough cause I want to try that WMC!! I guess the best way is to be as active as possible. I had WCMC twice but only at the top half of it. I got my taste of it, felt satisfied, but didn't over do it. And did do a lot of walking/stair climbing/dancing. A LOT. When I got off the ship, my quads were tender to the touch. I had considered bringing runners and some gym gear just to do some laps but I really didn't need to and I'm glad I didn't waste the space/weight in my luggage.
