Anyone had this situation come up...

I had this happen once. A most annoying co worker showed up with family, on the same cruise. I think she didnt like me much either, but as much as I tried to avoid her, we ended up coming face to face numerous tiimes during the week. They were even in the dining room about 4 tables away, and I kept hearing Teeeheeeeeeeehahahaha......! that annoying shrill laugh that drove us all nuts at work! Even on the same plane back from Miami, in nearby seats! GRRRRRR:mad:

On my Triumph Cruise Nov. 10th, a woman in our group is sharing the ship with her ex (thats she's still hopelessly in love with) and his girlfriend. She apparently doesn't know that he'll be on the ship, just everyone else in our group. That could get interesting in a not so "fun ship" kinda way!

I mean its 1 thing if its an adult but an 11 year old kid you know he's just gonna try and annoy me because he can.

Edit: this isn't me saying I hate kids, I love kids, I wouldn't coach the bible quiz team if I didn't like them. I wouldn't work with children's church if I didn't like them. But sometimes I just need time away from them, lol I'm still a young adult, only 23. I need my time if I ever plan to have any of my own, lol.

I think you are worrying for nothing. However, if it becomes an issue where the child is being a pest, duck into any bar or the casino!

To the people calling me she, I'm

A he. Not she. And I already said I don't hate kids, I don't hate this kid. He's just already said if he sees me he'll bug me. He's a good kid though and I know there won't be a problem.

There you go, then!

Sorry! This was what I meant to say!!!

don't worry about it..its a big ship. The boy will be very busy doing his own thing I'm sure. I've cruised with my own kids and if it weren't for the 'see you at dinner' rule..I'd never have seen them..its a heck of a lot more fun to go to planned activities than sit by the pool with a grown up.

you're young, and I can understand how you could think that you are the 'be all and end all' to this child... but trust me..you're not. No insult intended...

the ship is just a LOT more fun than you!

Sometimes words in print come across harsher than you mean:o

I don't mean to be rude, but why is no one telling her? I am newly divorced and (luckily) not still hopelessly in love with my ex. However, if I were to be going on vacation with a group and it turns out he was on the same ship with his new girlfriend, I think I'd want my friends to tell me. Just so I could be prepared (sometimes even if you don't want them, seeing them with someone new can be a shock).

It's too late for her to cancel, but I think it would be nice if she was prepared just in case she sees him. I would hate to think she'd see him and end up shocked and showing it. No one needs to be caught with their proverbial pants down.

I booked my upcoming cruise cause I haven't had a vacation in almost 3 years, pretty much since my last cruise.

I use it to get away from my life and everything here for a short time.

Now here's the problem, I coach a bible quiz team at my church if anyone doesn't know what that is, it's a competition between 2 teams on general bible knowledge I coach the grades 1-6 range. Well I found out Sunday that 1 of the quizzers on the team will be on exact same ship as me at same time.

Book something to get away and they follow you there without you knowing it until shortly before.

At least I found out ahead of time so I can try to avoid him as much as possible cause you know kids they can be annoying at times, lol.

But has anyone else had that cruise to get away only to find out someone you're getting away from shows up on same ship?

Yes, this has happened with people with whom we are acquainted. Didn't know they were going to be on the same cruise until we were at a mutual event. Do you know how many times we saw them on the ship? 0!!!

What makes you think you'll even run into this child? Ships are big. If you do happen to see him, smile, nod, and walk away. Simple. Personally I think you are making more of an issue out of this than you need to.

Could you talk to his parents before hand so they could explain to him that he shouldn't follow you around? I know my parents always explained the proper time and place for me to hang out with adults and when not to. It's not a bad thing, just something kids need to learn.

Why start anything and create animosity before the cruise even begins?

Just leave it alone.

I worked as a cashier in a dollar store and when I was on a 18 day Panama cruise who did I see but a customer I could not stand ... she was one of those people you hide from when she comes in the store. She could not believe that I could afford such an expensive holiday when I eared minimum wage!!!!!!!!! I tried to avoid her as much as possible...who knew you could bump into someone so much with so many people on a ship. We were in line for an excursion and she wanted my attention and she actually snapped her fingers at me to get me to look at her ... we had fun hiding behind planters and such to hide from her the entire time ...

I'm a teacher and once I saw a student on the ship - she wasn't in any of my classes at the time, but she had been. We would run into each other every now and then, but she didn't want to see me as I didn't want to see her so we never spoke. When we got back to school I asked her if she enjoyed he cruise and that was it.

I work in IT at my job, and with a big company to boot, so my biggest fear was running into people whose computers I maintain. I could just see them approaching me with their work laptops, asking me to fix whatever. Yeah, I'm sure "it'll just take a few minutes", but them doing it in the first place defeats the whole purpose of going on a cruise; or worse, they'll complain to my boss after getting back to work. Unlike the previous scenarios, there is no specific person I was hoping to avoid; it's 200 people, and they could be anywhere on the ship. (I don't care if it sounds paranoid; there's a backstory to it all that I'd rather not talk about.)

Luckily, I did not run into a single person from my job or even from my city. And I prefered it that way. In the end, I had a great vacation that I smile about to this day.

You might be concerned about nothing. I think he will probably get so involved in Camp Carnival and making friends that you won't even see him.

A couple of years ago, I ran into some estranged family members whom I had not seen in years and didn't really want to. We were suddenly face to face in the buffet. We stammered "hello" and went our separate ways. I was so paranoid that I'd run into them again, but I never saw them after that. I even forgot about them after a couple of days.

I wouldn't be too worried. Yes, he could be the annoying type, but how often do you think you're going to run into him on the cruise? I'm betting not too often. If he does try to annoy you, like others have said, there are places that you can go just to get away from him--the casino, the bars, serenity, etc.

First Carnival cruise, I looked up as I entered the ship and saw a student from one of my classes (I was teaching in a very small town at a K-8 school and I taught everyone in 7th and 8th grade!). Then I saw another one... Turned out, there was a group of 50 people from that town on the ship! Oh, well, I just enjoyed all my DOD's anyway!

Seems like almost every other cruise, I've found a former student on it since then! But then, I've taught over 3000 kids in my career.

On my first cruise I managed to run into one of my Dad's ex girlfriends; I didn't realize it was her until we were in an elevator together. It was *so* awkward....she kept asking how my Dad was and if he had found someone new. I told he that my Dad had married, and she started in on how she hoped his new wife could handle his emotional distancing issues! Longest elevator ride of my life but I managed not to bump into her again. :o

I can appreciate where you're coming from as I used to work in a school...I would not be thrilled to see anyone I knew, let alone a student. I remember once I came into school on Monday and "heard" that I enjoyed my dinner on Saturday night.....turns out a family from the school was in the same restaurant and word spread like wildfire. (We're people too, we do go out to dinner!).

The Conquest is a large ship, and maybe do as others have said and stick to Serenity deck if possible. The kid will most likely be involved in other things, but still....

I would make sure to not tell his family what room number you're in either.

Enjoy yourself and have a fun and relaxing vacation!!
