Breeze"in" the Med quick evaluation

The Ship:

The ship is lovely and the decor lively without being overpowering.

With all the hot tubs, 2 pools and water park, it seems there is plenty of space for water & sun in a variety of ways. The hot tubs on the port side on 5 were almost never busy and the variety of loungers made it my favorite spot. A small pool on the serenity deck and a couple of hot tubs near the main pool would make it perfect.

Food

Something for everyone! Guy's burgers were good, but the fries were the best I've ever had. The continental breakfast at the Ocean Plaza, the buffet and the Blue Iguana were all good, and Ludmylla at the Cafe makes a mean latte. Anytime dining was wonderful, never more than a few minutes wait and a nice selection. We would not cruise with fixed dining again, especially with the European itinerary. Loved the Library Bar.

Entertainment

The weak spot. Everything was too loud, with the music overpowering the vocals on the production shows. During the Divas show, the vocals were turned up so loud to compensate, it distorted the voices. Even the solo folks in the pub & piano bar were too loud. Eddie C and the cool breeze band with Reagan on vocals were great, and the one shot artists were very good, especially Penny Mathisen.

Surely they could do something other than endless rounds of trivia on sea days, and lets show some movies set in the ports we were visiting.

Who is the CD aboard for this cruise? Just heard from the lovely Mrs. Jones and she said that apparently neither John Heald, or Butch Begovich are aboard, and that when she asked the pursers desk who the CD was, they said it was "Jimmy"?

Apparently there are a lot of "weather issues" on this cruise as well, and they are juggling the itinerary, but will still miss Sicily. Have you heard anything new?

So sorry to hear about the entertainment. I agree with you 100% about the VOLUME of the music aboard. I simply don't understand why they think we are all deaf? (If we weren't deaf before we got aboard, we probably will be when we debark the ship!

THANKS!

Jamie Dee and 6'3(Amy) were CD and asst CD. We missed MonteCarlo and had some rain in Pisa & Volterra, but otherwise the weather was good. Sicily was glorious.

I'm a musician & ran sound & lights in various size theaters. The sound guy had everything amped like it was up on the pool deck. One bright spot was the pool deck entertainment. The mixology contest and especiallly the synchronized swimming "teams" was funny and strangely not too loud.

THANKS! I thought you were aboard right now. Apparently they missed MonteCarlo again, and had LOTS of rain in Pisa, AGAIN. They are going to miss Sicily totally on this cruise, and are juggling the itinerary around to be sure to catch Rome, and Venice. I sure hope the weather clears up for 'em, or it's going to be a VERY expensive, trip, just to see lots of rain.

I wonder what happened to John and Butch? According to the schedule, they are both supposed to be aboard on this cruise?

Thanks for the info.

What type of cabin did you have? Would you sail on her again?

We had a balcony on 7, and it was fine, with a huge amount of storage.

We liked the ship & the crew just fine, but would have to see an itinerary that grabbed us.

John left on the 16th for some meetings about the christening & an event at the New Orleans zoo. Don't know where Butch is.

Questions:

-did you try out the punchliner brunch? how was it?

- How about the 'wine vending machine' in the library?

- Did you visit the Casino? Favorite machines?

- Also interested in cabin and location.....did you order any room service via tv?

John is away - but I understand will be back for the TA on Nov 6th!

We're just off this same cruise and LOVED it! We had an inside handicapped cabin (9353) not because we needed the accessiblity but just liked the location. It was a great location that I haven't seen on any other ships (not to say that they don't have them, I just haven't seen it). The bathroom was huge and there was no step up which was nice but because of the altered layout we lost lots of storage. That was a problem on the 12 night but we managed and I don't think it would bother me at all on a shorter cruise.

Breeze is now my absolute favorite ship! Large with all the bells and whistles but I never felt it was over crowded and the layout was easy to get around. We were mid ship and by the elevators so we were able to go straight to the dinning room, casino or buffet just by going up or down a deck or two.

Questions:

-did you try out the punchliner brunch? how was it?

We tried it and I wasn't overly impressed with my food but my husband ordered the same thing and loved it. It was from 9 to 1:30 (I belive that's accurate) and the comedian came out every hour and did 10 minutes as a preview of their show that night.

- How about the 'wine vending machine' in the library?

Saw what you're referring to but didn't check it out

- Did you visit the Casino? Favorite machines?

I don't gamble often but my husband loved the casino and won $595 the first night in a Texas Hold 'em Tournament

Also interested in cabin and location.....did you order any room service via tv?

I just posted to another question discussing cabin location. As for room service - we only ordered room service once and did use the tv. It was easy but I realized once it was delivered that I usually ask for no mustard on my sandwich and the tv doesn't give you the option of making changes. You can still call for room service and if I had ordered again I would have done that but only because of the mustard. Otherwise it was a great option! And we used the tv to check our sail and sign account almost everyday.

With regards to ATD, which dining room was it held in and was it located on the bottom or top floor? Also, if you happened to be sitting at a table for two, was it an actual table for two, or a pseudo table for two with an eight top turned into 4 two tops that are inches apart from each other? Thanks

Glad to see that you celebrated your platinum cruise by staying in a handicapped cabin and depriving someone that might have needed it the opportunity to stay there. :(

Questions:

-did you try out the punchliner brunch? how was it?

We did do the brunch once. The food was good, the comedian ok, but right next to us & too loud, a recurring theme

We also did lunch at Cucina del Capitano. The pasta bar wa great.

- How about the 'wine vending machine' in the library?

Did this once. The wine was good & inexpensive, with many varieties available, and a regular bartender on duty for other drinks.

- Did you visit the Casino? Favorite machines?

Cleopatra II was my favorite, since I won:D There was also an arcade type game where you had to manipulate a key to win cash & I-pads which seemed to be an endless source of fascination for the guys.

- Also interested in cabin and location.....did you order any room service via tv?

7397-Balcony just forward of the aft elevators. Didn't order room service, but found the tv useful for checking menus and our sign & sail accounts.

Sapphire on 3

There are many table configurations possible like most land based restaurants. The tables, no matter how many they seat are a bit closer than dining on land. We weren't compelled to talk to the people next to us if we were at a table for 2, but it seem only civil to acknowledge folks next to us if they weren't busy eating or conversing when we got there. In the "it's a small world" book, a couple seated just next to us at a table for 2 were from a neighboring town.

O.K., thanks for the info! I hope they both come back aboard for the Trans Atlantic. I sent something along with the lovely Mrs. for Butch, and I want her to witness the "Bed Time Story" as well. That would be BRILLIANT! :D

Thank you for the great response. We have booked the breeze for a Christmas cruise. We've never sailed Carnival and are a little worried after reading the CC Carnival forum for a few weeks. Although there are certainly complaints on the NCL section of CC, the number of un-happy Carnival guests on CC is a little stunning.

We are also staying in an inside near the elevators. :)

If you book a handicapped cabin on Carnival and that room is later needed for a handicapped person, doesn't Carnival simply move the non-handicapped person to another available room?

People are always find things to complain about. Our first cruise was on Carnival 14 years ago. I cruised on the Breeze in the Med 2 weeks ago (our 2nd Carnival Cruise) with 28 cruises on other cruise lines In between. You will love the Breeze. I liked their Lido Deck. They had the largest selection of food that I have ever seen on a ship. Their cabins were nice accommodations with lots of storage space. Relax, you will have a great time. Just remember there is no such thing as a bad cruise just a better cruise. I can't understand how people can go on a wonderful cruise and find so many things to complain about. Have a great time and you are lucky to be spending your holiday on the Carnival Breeze.

Just so everyone knows...they will not book a non-handicapped passenger in a handicap room if it is needed for someone with a disability. We would have been moved to another cabin. With that being said...I don't have to have a handicap accessible room but I am waiting for a double knee replacement. The fact that there is no stepup to enter the bathroom made my life much easier and I was not in nearly as much pain as I normally experience while cruising.

There's really no need to be a jerk when you don't have all the facts!

Lay out all of the facts to begin with and then maybe you will not be judged. If you mentioned your knee situation, that's fine, but you contradicted yourself when you said "not because we needed the accessibility but just liked the location."

By making that quote in your original posting, you not only implied but downright stated that you did not need the handicapped room, but you liked the location and that was the reason you chose that cabin. If you had mentioned your knee situation, then no rebuttal comment would have been necessary, but when you come across as another member of the "me generation" that doesn't care about anybody else except who is staring back at them when they look in the mirror, then you are just inviting yourself to be criticized.

You are correct I shouldn't have assumed everyone on this board would know Carnival's Policy about Handicap Accessible Cabins. Although apparently most of the others in this discussion did since they were nice enough to come to my defense. I am not a selfish person nor am I one to jump on people without asking for more details. I sometimes have the bad habit of thinking others will treat me with the same respect.

For anyone else reading this...You might note that if you do have problems walking (not what I consider a handicap), you are always free to request a handicap accessible cabin since they will only book you in it if there is no one who needs it worse. You can also choose a cabin close to an elevator. On Breeze the cabins by the mid-ship elevators are very convenient and reduce the amount of walking that is necessary. We have found that the amount of noise from the elevators is very minimal, other than the last night of the cruise when luggage is being gathered. On that night you can expect the noise from the baggage handling until around midnight.
