Just back from Carnival Imagination (Key West, Cozumel)

Just back from 4 night Carnival Imagination cruise going to Key West and Cozumel. I went on this cruise with my 2 adult daughters and my mom. My daughters and I have cruised before, but this was my mom's first cruise.

We flew in the night before to FLL and used SAS transportion to get us to the Holiday Inn POM. Our flight was 2 hours late and when I called them they said no problem and were there to pick us up within 5 minutes.

The Holiday Inn was fine for our needs. The location was great as it was across the street from bayside where we ate and did a bit of shopping. There was a CVS just down the road where I picked up a 12 pack of diet coke to bring on board. We took a cab ($10) the next morning and were on the ship by 11:30.

Food was good at all venues. The desserts have gotten much better (we didn't see too many gelatenous ones). The mini chocolate chip cookies were great.

There were plenty of spaces to sit both inside and outside the ship. In fact this ship has so many inside venues and most of them were empty many times. The layout of the ship is a bit strange as we saw alot of people trying to figure out where to go. The majority of the rooms are located below everything and the lifeboats are located right in front of the decks so sitting outside in a lounge chair on the upper deck your view is of a lifeboat.

Unfortunately our last day was affected by Hurricane Sandy so we had to spend our sea day inside. There wasn't much to do unless you want to be at the casino or drink. The entertainment and programs were sorely lacking. On our last NCL cruise we had to decide what activities to attend as there were so many we couldn't do them all. This was a huge dissapointment to me as I had told my mom about all of the activities that would be available. The Carnival Imagination needs to step up the activities and evening entertainment.

I can't imagine there was nothing to do, on our last cruise I did so much running around I was disappointed I didn't get enough time to sit in the sun, same stuff I always see offered on every cruise I've been on, the last sea day. Art auction, tea time, bingo. During the week there was entertainment of some sort eveynight.

In Key West we just did shopping and of course walked to the most southern point for a photo op. Key West has a ton of shopping and it's a great place to get t-shirts as they have quite a few $5.00 stores. We ported from 7:30am to 1:00pm so there wasn't much time to do a whole lot. Most of the stores didn't open until 9 or 10am either.

In Cozumel we went to Chankanaab park. They have guides that will take you around the paths and explain all of the statues, a seal show which was fun, a pool, a lagoon that doesn't get more than 3 feet deep and also an area to snorkel. We spent all afternoon there and then did some shopping in town.

I wouldn't say there wasn't anything to do on the ship, but they only had an evening show one night and then it was shortened because of some technical issues with the equipment. Yes, they had bingo, tea time and the casino, but those things didn't interest us. I think the high seas affected our attitudes a bit as well, but I was really bored. It would be nice to see some fresh offerings besides the same old stuff. We did go to the art auction and drank alot of champagne.
