tpeiyn Posted October 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2012 I am 6 days away from my first cruise on Fantasy and as usual, I have horrible luck! I have managed to catch a cold --coughing, sneezing, runny nose, the whole nine yards! I am totally unwilling to even.THINK about giving up my cruise! Will they give me grief at embarkation for being sick?!?!

katiel53 Posted October 29, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 29, 2012 I don't think you will have a problem with a cold. If you had the flu or something, that would be different, but you still have time to feel better and get rid of it. Good luck!
peptobysmol Posted October 29, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 29, 2012 You should be over a common cold in 6 days, relax. IF, you do appear sick things might not go so well for you. I wonder if anyone has been denied boarding for being/looking ill.
tpeiyn Posted October 29, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Thanks guys:) I guess my first stop in the morning will be CVS to load up on cold medicine!

I have managed to catch a cold --coughing, sneezing, runny nose, the whole nine yards! I am totally unwilling to even.THINK about giving up my cruise! Will they give me grief at embarkation for being sick?!?! If you are six days away, wouldn't your cold be pretty much gone by then? I find that taking extra vitamin C helps alleviate symptoms. Don't give up the ship yet. (Pun intended.) Wait and see how you feel in a few days.
travlngrl1996 Posted October 29, 2012 #9 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids. Rest, rest, rest!!! You should be over the cold by then! Feel better soon. :)
cocontom Posted October 29, 2012 #10 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Get thee to CVS (or Walgreens/Walmart/Target/anywhere else with vitamins) immediately, and get Zinc, Vitamin C and D. Take the zinc with dinner/food, and take the vitamin C at least an hour after the zinc, they don't play well together (and the zinc makes me nauseous if I take it anytime other than with-as in, in the middle of- a meal). Or take the right now, and the zinc right before bed so you sleep through the nausea just to get it in your system ASAP, then switch tomorrow (but take the C in the morning too!). I don't think it matters when you take the D. It really will help.
mykindaparty Posted October 29, 2012 #11 Share Posted October 29, 2012 I hope you get to feeling better but if not and they ask just tell them you have allergies from the difference in cities.
bruisin4cruisin Posted October 29, 2012 #12 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Good luck, I am 5 days from heading to PR and I was sick 2 weeks ago. I took Mucinex and then went to Robitussin when I started coughing. Felt better by day 5. Medicate, rest as much as you can and no worries, you will be better. tpeiyn Posted October 29, 2012 Author #14 Share Posted October 29, 2012 LOL, thanks for all of the encouraging replies! I hope I'm better by then, but I'm the queen of the what-if's. You know, What if I .... ( forget my photo I'D at home), (have two flat tires on the way to Charleston) (can't board because....)

tpeiyn Posted October 29, 2012 Author #16 Share Posted October 29, 2012 You could stay home and I'll go in your place. :) You would have to pry my boarding pass out of my cold dead hands! Also, you would have to share with my snoring husband ;)
Rare Banditswife Posted October 29, 2012 #17 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Take the mucinex & over the counter cold meds just prior to boarding, just in case. You will appear well, even if you aren't. My colds last more than 6 days, but meds alleviate the symptoms. good luck.

proudpatriot07 Posted October 29, 2012 #20 Share Posted October 29, 2012 You should be fine. Go to the doc and get something if you need it, but 6 days on OTC meds you should be okay. I had a crazy sinus infection a few years ago before one, went to the doc that Friday and got on antibiotics + decongestants. Our cruise left that Monday, and aside from having a weird metallic taste in my mouth (stupid side effects), I was fine. I think the sea air actually helped a bit. ccruisequeen Posted October 29, 2012 #21 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Get vitamin water zero glow which tastes great and contains zinc and c. I try not to take zinc at night as it tends to keep me awake, but that's just me.
LWiening Posted October 29, 2012 #22 Share Posted October 29, 2012 A cold you will make it through. But there are some that boarded a ship today and they had to get off. You will be ok and you will havea wonderful trip..
cruizn2escape Posted October 29, 2012 #23 Share Posted October 29, 2012 I agree with those who told you to get rest, take over the counter meds, etc. Antibotics won't help a cold. When you do get on the ship, be extra vigilant with hand washing, covering your mouth when you cough, etc. so others don't get your gerrms. Mostly relax and have a great cruise! my_crib_too Posted October 29, 2012 #24 Share Posted October 29, 2012 Have a great cruise!!! You will be fine. We typically bring a cold home with us, never left with one. Last Christmas we came home from a cruise, worked one day and had to take two sick days getting over something.
