MrFunInTheSun Posted November 15, 2012 Author #111 Share Posted November 15, 2012 (Notes I wrote Wednesday) Good afternoon! It's been a beautiful day here in Grand Cayman. Since I'm at the bow of the ship I heard the anchors drop just before 7am which doesn't bother me and is rather exciting to know we made our destination, others I'm sure would be annoyed. If your easily annoyed don't get a room at the bow of the ship. Just sayin. Do your homework. :-) Walked down to deck zero and walked right onto the tender at 8am. On shore by 820 or so! I walked around the gated area a bit before our tour departed at 9am. While waiting I ran into the sisters, they were on the same excursion as me. We took a bus and then a boat to rum point. From the time we got on the bus and to the island was about an hours worth of time. Landed at Rum Point by 1015-1020. We have an hour and a half here at the beach before its all aboard the boat, then they bring us to where we can view Stingrays. Whilst at Rum Point I had a liquid breakfast and lunch. I had a couple of Cayman Islands special brew and limited edition for pirates week. Had Pirates Gold which was very good. In my opinion this excursion was fun to do and rum point is nice, however for the time it takes to get there it's one of those excursions to do once. Once back to the ship area I made my way to Margiritaville. Since time was so close to when we needed to pick up the last tender to the ship I didn't buy a frozen concoction. (finishing up were I left off on Wednesday) Once back on the ship I watched us sail off out of Grand Cayman in route for Jamaica. I may or may not have dozed off a bit whist sitting in the serenity deck. Time again was close after my nap, made my way to the VIFP party where the drinks were plentiful and made up for lost drinking time earlier in the day. My NY friend and I had a great time at the party. So glad I met her, we spoke about doing a Europe cruise at the same time when she turns 50 in a couple years. That would be tons of fun. After the party it was time for me to get ready for the Chefs Table. At the Chefs Table I got to visit with two others from our roll call that I hadn't met. We had an enjoyable evening, ate some wonderful food and met some nice people. I was able to take some pictures of the food and will share them in a bit. I've done the "Behind the Scenes" tour on the Freedom the last time I sailed her in 2010. So going back into the galley again for the Chefs Table was really neat as we saw the galley a bit more in-depth. Well worth doing the Chefs Table at least once. I had arranged to meet up with my NY friend at 900, however the Chefs Table didn't end until 935ish. I walked around a bit, enjoyed time out on the deck and donated more money Carnival in the casino. Stopped back at my room at one time and was going to go to the deck party. I decided to lay down for a few minutes. I didn't wake back up again until 1230 and decided just to go back to sleep. I was beat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse any typographical errors.
hartskys Posted November 15, 2012 #112 Share Posted November 15, 2012 Hi. We are on the Freedom next month and the same itinerary. If you have time could you please do me a favor when you get ot Ocho Rios? We are thinking about going to Turtle Beach there (We are told we can walk to it and it's the beach on the left while walking off the pier). Some friends of ours went there but it was almost 10 years ago. Can't seem to find much information about it on CC. This is our 4th time to Jamaica so we were just going off the ship for a few hours if the beach is nice there. Thanks and love your review! We are so excited to be on her next month. Enjoy :)
MrFunInTheSun Posted November 15, 2012 Author #113 Share Posted November 15, 2012 Good afternoon! Today's been a wonderful day here in Jamaica! Ya Mon! Got up early this morning and walked right off the ship to meet up with my excursion. 18th Century Plantation Tour and Ultimate Beach experience in Dolphin Bay. This excursion was lots of fun and well worth to do. Two ladies from Canada I had breakfast with the other day were on this excursion with me. I'll post pictures of this great experience of the Plantation! The beach experience was nice and relaxing. It's very touristy but nice. If your looking for a beach experience that gives you a nice wide beach, tropical trees and soft sand then this isn't the place for you. After sitting on the beach for a bit and getting some lunch I made my way past the touristy part purchasing a small painting by Zaro. I then boarded bus back to the village area and to hit up Margaritaville around 12:15. After chilling in Margaritaville for a bit. Whilst there I meet up with a couple folks from our roll call and where in Chefs Table last night. We all had a great time, then I made my way back to the ship, purchased a couple more things from some vendors then made my way on the ship to watch the ship runners. At 230 we were missing 6 people. At 215 we still had quite a few people making their way quickly to the ship. All aboard was 200, we set sail at 242. 6 people barely made it. Met up on Serenity with my NY friend and the Canadian friends and another couple I had dinner with a few nights ago. We all enjoyed the afternoon for awhile before going our separate ways. I then walked around the ship for a bit and caught the last part of one of the gospel concerts, watching from the outside of the International lounge, whilst there I ran into another couple I had dinner with one night too. Everyone around the ship seem nice and relaxed and enjoying their time. I'm going to get some sushi from the sushi bar then meet up with my NY friend and Canadian friends for dinner. Catch some shows and head to the Piano Bar to listen to Marty. Till a later time, live from the Carnival Freedom! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse any typographical errors. MrFunInTheSun Posted November 16, 2012 Author #120 Share Posted November 16, 2012 Around 930 shortly after my last post I made my way around the ship. I still had time to go and eat in the dining room but declined and decided to skip breakfast. During my walk I ran into a couple of my roll call members, we chatted for a bit before we all carried on with our gorgeous day at sea. Later on during my journey I ran into some of my previous nights dinner mates. I then ran into at the very aft of the ship over looking the sea current this first time cruiser from Canada without his wife enjoying his cup of coffee soaking in the views and sound. I asked how he was doing. He said to me with this big grin on his face and this is all most verbatim "I think I'm finally getting this". I asked him when his next cruise was?:-) He wants to be able to swim more at ports since the ships don't really offer swimming as much as wading. I suggested he seek out message boards on the Internet and that many ports offer a free beach he could swim and spend part of the day. Ha! Another cruise virgin now has the cruise bug! Imagine that. It's always fun watching and chatting with new cruisers and see and hear their amazement in awe! Looks like a storm Some better weather behind us After that I made my way up to the Serinity to enjoy some shaded cover and the wonderful breeze as I continued reading "Searching for Kokomo, The Diary of a MADD cruiser." Chatted a bit with some other ships friends then got some lunch at the buffet and stopped by the Posh dining room to get my free drink! Everyone enjoying a great day of the lido deck Till a later time, live from the Freedom! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse any typographical errors. MrFunInTheSun Posted November 17, 2012 Author #121 Share Posted November 17, 2012 This afternoon has been a nice and relaxing day on the Freedom. Many seem sad as you can imagine since tomorrow we must depart the Freedom, how sad. I've spent most of today hanging out with my Canadian and NY friends. I was able to catch part of a concert this afternoon that is part of the charter and it was very well performed. We traveled through a rain storm briefly. Cool pictures of around the ship during this time. Deck 3 outside is a great area to relax if you want quiet and hear the waves against the ship. The sitting area at the stern of the ship is another fairly quiet area. Till a later time, live from the Freedom! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse any typographical errors. MrFunInTheSun Posted November 17, 2012 Author #125 Share Posted November 17, 2012 Good Evening! The conclusion has arrived of another great day on the Freedom along with the end of another great cruise. Tonight I had dinner with my Canadian and NY friends, another wonderful time. We then briefly went to the ticket to ride show in which we left halfway through as we didn't care all that much for it. We went our own ways for a bit and met back up one more time at the piano bar to sing along with Marty! Marty is great so if your sailing the Freedom between now and March, be sure to pay him a visit! He's a riot. We all said our goodbyes along with other great people we've met the past week. The last day and night of a cruise is always the worse, for obvious reasons. :-) Good news is we have our future cruises to look forward too. During 2013 it's my plan to cruise the Carnival Breeze, RCCL-Enchantment of the seas and RCCL- Freedom of the seas along with one other cruise mixed in there. The ship is slowly rolling the streets up as everyone readies to depart Saturday morning. Tonight's movie on the big screen Dancing lady getting in a few more dances in the lobby bar. She was dancing everywhere all the time and always had the brightest smile throughout the whole cruise. Tonights towel animal I'll post more pictures of the ports, excursions and ship once I'm home on Saturday. I'll also give a brief synopsis of both ships. Guess its time to pack. :-( Till a later time, Live from the Freedom... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Please excuse any typographical errors.
