P&OMAN Posted November 27, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2012 Just returned from Voyager of the Seas 18 day Australian and New Zealand cruise. 4 days into the cruise was advised by a fellow cruiser that as from the beginning of the cruise RCI were allowing passengers to bring on board up to two bottles of wine per person ever time they went ashore. When I checked with the reception desk this was in fact confirmed that wine could be brought on for consumption in your cabin. If you took it to the dining room a corkage charge of $25's would be applied. However I was able to take a bottle of Jacobs Creek sparkling wine that I had purchased in Wellington, New Zealand into Portofino's without a corkage charge applied. I also learnt that some people who had wine and spirits confiscated when they boarded the ship at the start of the cruise in Freemantle were able to get these bottles returned to them again for consumption in there cabin. Now I don't know if the sudden change in policy was just for this cruise or is going to be allowed while Voyager is in Australia. It would be interesting to hear any follow up comments on this subject.

Is that not the case? We're sailing in 39 days on the Vision oTS and would be interested if the above is true. Thanks.

That is correct...wine can only be brought & consumed onboard at embarkation...any wine or alcohol brought onboard at ports of call will be taken & held until the last night....there have been some reports of people getting "lucky" & have their purchases make it thru undetected...but for the most part they are pretty vigilant about taking it away... mynyddisamrs Posted November 27, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 27, 2012  Just a thought ....what if you started a glass of wine, from a carried on bottle , in your cabin and then carried it to your dinner venue? I've often started a drink in the champagne bar and carried it to dinner.
Rare BecciBoo Posted November 27, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 27, 2012 Of course. Corkage fee is for corking the bottle in the dining room or other public bar. You can carry your wine anywhere in a glass. Our 6 bottles made it on and were consumed for our 3 cabins. Wonderful!:D

Perhaps they relaxed the rule in Australia because there are so many fabulous wines to be found in New Zealand. I remember being frustrated that I couldn't bring anything onboard Rhapsody in 2010...
