sjb.illinois Posted November 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2012 Hi all, We are pulling our kiddos from school for a week to go on a cruise, and while we've made all proper arrangements with school, I'd like to incorporate some fun learning in the trip. I'm looking for simple line map drawings which will print easily, as well as distances between the (Caribbean) islands. Doing a Google image search I've found some not so great maps. And the calculations are a bit wonky too. Just wondering if anyone has a good source for reasonable teaching oriented resources? Grades 2 and 5, geography, science, etc., related to this trip. Thanks in advance!
6rugrats Posted November 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2012 Great Circle Mapper can be useful. It's for flights (you'll need to type in the airport codes for the islands), but you can get distances, latitude, longitude, etc. and you may be able to use something from the webpage. http://www.gcmap.com/
Rare Essiesmom Posted November 29, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2012 http://www.cruiseportinsider.com/ They don't have the greatest selection of Caribbean ports, but they do have good maps for what is there. EM
Onessa Posted November 30, 2012 #4 Share Posted November 30, 2012 No distances, but a nice outline map of the caribbean here: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/northamerica/caribbean/outlinemap/ They also have many of the islands separately from here: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/geography/ Another good spot for outline maps: http://www.yourchildlearns.com/online-atlas-central-america.htm This site has color maps http://www.infoplease.com/atlas/caribbean.html and a cool distance calculator: where your kids can enter two ports and get a variety of info back (direct milage, nautical miles, latitude and longitude of each city, etc.) Just don't make them work too hard! :)
