time2cruise1 Posted May 2, 2013 #202 Share Posted May 2, 2013 Dateline- May 2, Breakaway Middle of the Atlantic Current status of UBP remains total confusion. Depending on the bar the answers of what is included and what is not are very different. I spend 15 minutes with the Bar Manager, F&B Dir, HD, and the team from hotel operations onboard to help get a consistent answer making the program easy for the Guests and Bar Staff. The documentation remains very clear, all cocktails made with everything but super and ultra premium spirits, beer $5.50 or less, all wines by the glass $10 or less. The question I ask is a Martini a cocktail , answer yes. Can I order one answer 75% of the bars no, 20%, yes, and 5% don't know. I expect shortly to see a $ limit on cocktails like beer and wine that seems to be the direction the executive team is headed to clear up the mess. One bartender would not give us a Bud or Bud Light since they are $5.50 and it has to be less then $5.50. A short English comprehension class and beer was served. :D Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk - Jim
70SS350 Posted May 2, 2013 #203 Share Posted May 2, 2013 Clear up the confusion already NCL. It has been just about 2 months and the bartenders seem to be confused about whats included still, from what other cruisers have been posting. Not sounding so "Ultimate" right now. weltek Posted May 2, 2013 #204 Share Posted May 2, 2013 Agree that this seems to be more of a training issue at this point. I don't have the patience to even consider buying it at this point, after seeing friends try it on our recent cruise and hearing things aren't better yet. danh78 Posted May 2, 2013 #205 Share Posted May 2, 2013 Are mixed drinks supposed to cost more? I just returned from the Epic, some nights I would order a Jack on the rocks, other Jack & Pepsi, both cost $6.25, same with Tanqueray & Tonic, I didn't get an upcharge for a mixer. Was the bartender just being nice? In any case, I did the math based on our last cruise, and this deal doesn't make sense for us. I could probably do the $56/day, but my fiance wouldn't, so I'd have to be hitting $70-80/day to make it worth it. Most nights we'd have a drink or two with dinner, then we'd split a bucket of beer after.

Jack and coke, Miller light, no problem. The rest open for debate bar by bar. Not a training issue but rather an unsure plan by management. Dawn_w_twins Posted May 3, 2013 #208 Share Posted May 3, 2013 It seems that allowing this would be cheaper since I could just order alchohol drink - I tend to like to alternate a little (drink, water, drink, soda etc) so as to avoid passing out in a corner somewhere - I really don't want to buy both packages. thoughts?? I have a deposit on an NCL 15 nights cruise - but - all inclusive to us is paramount, and in the uk - I was told by phone - everything was included. We love Costa ships in Europe and AllInc on their ships is very clear. Its 19 euro per day - and the list is at every bar, clearly marked all that is included and not included. I am going a little bit "off" our booking with NCL - paying neearly 4000dollars to fly out to Miami - then cruise cost + drinks = is it worth it??? Not so if the all inclusive is a wash out? Hope you are having a great cruise - would be grateful for any updates on the UBP
njcrab Posted May 4, 2013 #210 Share Posted May 4, 2013 Just got off the Gem today, as soon as we purchased the package they stated wine under $10, beer $5.50 and less and cocktails $7.50 and less were included. We were able to get everything that we normally drink, such as mudslides, pina coladas, Malibu bay breeze, beer and wine, and if you are a wine drinker this package is the best because the amount of wine they give you in a glass is very small. If I had to actually pay the $9.75 for a glass of Pinot Noir I would have been very upset as they really give a small amount. This package saved us over $300 as our bar bill would have been $1100 and no,we were not walking around drunk. It is very easy to run a high bar bill without trying, a few cocktails poolside, a couple of sodas and 3 glasses of wine during the evening will easily surpass the $49 a day charge. green eyed lady Posted May 4, 2013 #212 Share Posted May 4, 2013 Can anyone please answer my questions and let me know if I am correct or not: The Drink Package must be purchased by everyone in the cabin, 21 and over. Anyone in the cabin not 21 needs to get the soda package. Do all cabins on the same credit card need to purchase the package? We have four cabins for my family and my mother is taking my sister's familiy and my family so her credit card will be on file. Does every cabin need to purchase if the same credit card will be used for all OB purchases? If so, I will have more questions on how I can go about this, for instance, could she purchase OBC for each of our cabins and we use our sign/sail card to purchase, thus using the OBC? I would also like to move another child into my mother's room (my dd is in there and she is 19) on paper since she will not need to purchase the alcohol package. Does this all make sense? I am trying to figure out how my dh, my sister/her dh and I can purchase without my mother and dd (and perhaps one of the kids) since my ds will be with me and my sister has 3 children. Thanks so much! Hi Joy... Did you see this? http://www.ncllatitudesmagazine.com/Spring2013/NewsFlash/WhatsNewOnBoard/tabid/99/Default.aspx According to it, everyone on the same credit card has to buy the same pkg whether they are in the same cabin or not. This is AFTER an NCL rep told me just 2 days ago that FOR SURE this was not the case  She even checked with a supervisor who confirmed that, and she made notes in our reservations in case we had a problem. I'm just going to use 2 different cards for the 2 cabins that I'm paying for...and I printed the lattitudes flyer out to bring along. Seems like NCL needs to get their act together :(

I dont know that NCL differs from any of the other lines - they need to protect against parties of people sailing together - buying say two packages, but getting drinks for four people (as an example). On Costa, ALL people DINING together must be on the all inclusive - thats how they work it - so as NCL is freestyle - guess they need to try and work it. It cannot be easy to find a system that works for Freestyle dining.. Thanks so much for this link!!

So now I will just use 2 different credit cards...one for my cabin (no UBP) and one for my sons' cabin (UBP). But technically they can still get me drinks at the bar...the credit card I'm using really has nothing to do with that. I'm still traveling with them...in fact we have a group of 10 who are sailing. BTW...before anyone flames...they are not going to be getting me drinks because I don't drink ;)

baflagg Posted May 5, 2013 #217 Share Posted May 5, 2013 This may have been asked already and if it was I just missed it. But does the drink pacakge apply to anywhere you get a drink like the restaurants that you pay an upcharge for and the casino? I thought I saw on one of the threads that the restaurants along the boardwalk on the Breakway you pay for food but what about drinks if you have the UBP. Thanks. EbonySHeart Posted May 5, 2013 #220 Share Posted May 5, 2013 I think I have decided to do the UBP, mainly for peace of mind. I really do hope they come up with a $10 or less. I would like to try the drink at the top of the specialty menu. And I really don't want to go through vacation asking is this included?
Nordby Posted May 18, 2013 #221 Share Posted May 18, 2013 I have one question. I guess i have the answer, but i want to ask. If i buy the UBP. And wants a drink "over the limit". I guess i will be charged the full price, or will i just have to pay from the limit?

Nordby Posted May 19, 2013 #223 Share Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the quick reply. Agree ;) Is it a "done deal" that spirits is from 7,50 and down, as mentioned above in this thread? I am buying the UBP not beacause i am going to party hard, but beacause i don`t want to think about it on the holliday, and just enjoy. Sorry about my English.
