When a ship is docked in a port for 3 days...

We are looking into booking the Norwegian Breakaway for this coming summer. I have never been on a cruise where the ship stays docked in the same place for three days. I know the casino must remain closed while the ship is docked but I'm wondering if everything else on the ship functions normally? On past cruises, things like the gift shop and other venues would be closed and activities and dining would be limited. Is that the case when a ship is docked somewhere for as long as three days? I want to explore Bermuda, but I also want to enjoy the ship as much as possible.

The casino and shops will be closed. Bermuda is such a great place to be for three days. We look at it as a leisurely way to see the island. First day, we went to the beach and took in all the attractions at Royal Naval; second day went to St. George and Hamilton; third day, Horseshoe Bay. I also loved how there was a street fair/concerts etc. at RND during the evening. The ship's activities will still be ongoing.

On reading some of the Bermudian press, a vote is likely in the future that may let cruise ships open their casinos and shops while in port. At this time they are closed in port. I feel it is wishful thinking to think that the casino and shops could be open. It would be a major accounting nightmare till all the wrinkles are worked out.

As stated, the casino and shops will be closed, but everything else will function normally.

 

I loved overnighting in Bermuda and treating the ship like a hotel for three days!

They are going to Bermuda for 3 days for 2 reasons

 

1. It's a very dull port (IMO)

 

2. It's super expensive on shore and so therefore they know you will prefer to stay aboard for your food and drinks.

 

However, what I do not understand is the massive losses they will be making with the casino closed for 2-3 days.

 

I Love the look of Breakaway but the ports of call are awful.

I think NCL has done the math and taking the breakaway to Bermuda will make them the most money... NCl has a very good deal with Bermuda

I dont think Bermuda is a dull port at all. (IMO), but yes it is a very expensive one on shore. I like the the look of the Breakaway, and the ports of call, but find the fares too expensive (IMO) .:)
