Sailing out of NY

Recommended Posts

Do your research so you know what to expect. There are three cruise ports in NY - Manhattan, Brooklyn and Bayonne, NJ. You only sail directly by the Statue of Liberty from Manhattan but you can see her from all three. There are also three airports to fly into. Hotels in Mahattan are expensive.

We flew into LGA on the day of the cruise this fall. (Unfortunately a business event kept us from coming in early.) However we arrived at 9 in the morning, had car service take us to the Manhattan pier where we dropped off our bags and then headed by foot all over midtown/Times Square etc for almost 5 hours. The weather was beautiful and we got to see/experience more in that time than we imagined we would and were back to check in onboard by 3:30. LOTS of excercise pre dinner for sure! Hadn't been there in years and the half day was perfect for a revisit.

The sites from the outdoor decks while leaving the area were fantastic and as the sun set, the statue of Liberty changed colors against the sky as we "chugged" on by. Just beuatiful and heartening.

I think it was awesome!

Have suggested it for lots of cruisers I know to try.

Hotels in NYC expensive stay outside the city. Drive in the morning you sail. Or stay in NJ and take the Path train into the city.

However you do it enjoy.

Happy Cruising
