Chigirlcruzin Posted January 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2013 I love the look of white bathing suits, but I really struggle to keep them white. I have a couple with white in them (zebra print, green with white polka dots), and the white always becomes dingy looking after 5-6 wears. I rinse my suits out after each wear, line dry, and them wash on delicate with Woolite every 2-3 wears. Any suggestions on how to keep the white white? Any suggestions on how to save my current suits?
SadieN Posted January 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Maybe try old fashioned bluing. http://www.mrsstewart.com/
luckycruzer Posted January 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2013 will turn the fabric dull..as it may have special whiteners, or oxy bleach in them. 100% is about the only white fabric that will stay white as it can be..Good Luck
elleks Posted January 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2013 I use Vanish Crystal White, but I don't know what it would do to the coloured bits.
Bookish Angel Posted January 3, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 3, 2013 I used it on some all-cotton vintage clothing many years ago and it worked very well. It might act differently on synthetic material so google cream of tartar and see what you get.
5326jan Posted January 3, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 3, 2013 I never buy white bathing suits because I've seen too many that become see through when wet! As for the color changing, it could be from the chlorine in the pool reacting with the fabric. RTurnaround Posted January 8, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 8, 2013 Definitely just wash full white bathing suits with other white wash, I don't know exactly about white and other colors, maybe you could soak them in something. Or I just remembered those oxy commercials (lol) this one says it's good for whites and colors and brightens them? http://www.oxiclean.com/in-wash/Products/oxiclean-stain-fighter-triple-power-liquid.aspx
cocontom Posted January 8, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 8, 2013 Avobenzone in sunscreen/sunblock will turn any fabric nasty colors, and spandex yellows as it starts to degrade, which it will do in sunlight.
