Drink packages

We are going on a 7 night cruise in June to the Southern Caribbean (RC-Jewel) and want to know if the wine package is worth it if we only drink a couple/few glasses a night. Seems like overkill to get a bottle a night, but don't want to pay the individual prices plus added gratuity every night if the package would be cheaper. Thank you in advance!:)

only you can decide if it is. figure a bottle is 4-6 glasses. if you do not finish a bottle at dinner, they will either hold it for you, or you can bring it back to your cabin.

look over the list. decide what you'd drink, then figure out a cost analysis, keeping in mind that some wines are only available by the bottle so you can't get just a glass.

we found a 5 bottle package on a 6 night cruise was perfect.

of course ,if you are in a suite or are D members and can take advantage of the nightly cocktail hour, you may not need to buy as much wine over all.

I guess I should have been more specific with my question. Sorry about that - I know I can do the math, but I guess I really wanted to know how much a glass of wine would be. I also didn't realize that you could take your bottle with you to your room or keep it for the next night, etc. That definitely makes a difference.

Also I have read about what is included with drinks and I'm a little confused. A friend who has gone on cruises said that it is all included, but the webpage made it sound as if water fountains was the only source unless you wanted to purchase it. I wondered if we should expect to buy bottled water and how much that is on average. That could add up since that is the beverage of choice for the daytime.

I would ask this on your cruiselines forum.

It is more expensive to buy wine by the glass than by the bottle.

This is true in restuarants and on ships. There is usually a greater variety of wines available by the bottle than by the glass.

Either way there is an add-on for the grat.

If you do buy a package wait until you are out of the homeport. Many homeports will collect tax on liquor sold before sailaway. A good rule of thumb is when the Casino opens there is no more tax on bar purchases.

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

You should ask on the RCI section about how much a glass of wine would cost. Then you can decide if it is better to buy by the glass or by the bottle. There are times when we do decide to have wine and we will buy a bottle. We never finish a bottle in one night -- so the wine steward in the dining room puts our name and cabin number on the bottle and saves it for the next night.

As for water -- the ships water is better than what we get at home - no need to buy water.

wine runs about $9-12 a glass on average. think the house wine( la Terre) is slightly less.

there are no water fountains.

drinks included in the price of the cruise:

Iced Tea, lemonade, some juices ( at breakfast.. fresh squeezed is extra). Plain coffee in the MDR

all bottled water soda and shakes/smoothies are extra as is anything you get in a bar or lounge.

I only have experience with the wine package, not the new drinks package that is rolling out on some of the bigger ships so I don't know what else besides wine and liquor they include.

you can get a soda card for soda and there should be a beer special available.. buy 5 get 6 type deals.

there is NO need to buy bottled water, the stuff on board is perfectly filtered and tastes fine.
