Wasn't there a blow-up monkey on a blacony that caused a 'Man Overboard' a few years ago?

Sure was, LOL

Freedom delay: Searching for overboard monkey!!

Yep, you read that right. I doubt I'll ever type that sentence again in my lifetime.

We left Grand Cayman on schedule, and almost immediately after getting some real engine power going, the captain did what he called "a maneuver". Sharp turn to the right to go back. Seems a passenger reported seeing something go overboard that looked like a person. Todd later came on and explained what was going on, since many were up on the Lido looking overboard. The story is that someone had a large stuffed monkey and it fell overboard, but since it wasn't found, everyone had to be accounted for. So before we can officially set sail on our way to Jamaica, everyone is required to go to the lobby and "doink" their S&S card.

Would probably go more quickly if the past guest party wasn't in progress, and the casino hadn't just opened (some seem reluctant to leave their table or machine). First seating of dinner is now underway, and Todd continues to ask that people head to the lobby. We had a large French group on this sailing, and I am surprised that no one has yet to make the request in their language.

Oh, well. . . . at least this cruise is offering something that I've not had before. Monkey search - Cool!!!

Wanted to do something diff to our balcony this year sincethis will be for my bday :D Any ideas of what fun things I can do? Does Carnival allow you to use that glass chalk stuff?

I can't think of anything tackier. Can you imagine how the ship would look from the pier if people started writing on their balcony. Flying a flag or poster at embarkation and sail away is one thing, but please don't use chalk to decorate. :)

I would request that you don't use the "Christmas Lights". A number of years ago the people in the cabin next door put twinkle lights on their balcony. For two nights I felt like I was in a cheap motel with the neon sign blinking outside. It was really annoying. On the third day I asked them if they could turn the lights off around 10:00 or 11:00 p.m.. The answer was "No". So a trip to guest services to let them know about the problem solved it. That night the lights had been taken down and no "blinking". I had a couple of glares from them after that but I didn't care.

BTW: The people on the other side of them thanked me for going to guest services.

Take care,

Mike

Disney has a lot of pirate flags on balconies just ask Jack Sparrow that would be Capt Jack Sparrow :)

Congrats on taking a birthday cruise :D

As others have stated, do not put anything out there that has lights, or could blow away. Be 100% certain that it can't blow away. It could get wet also, from weather or cleaning crew. If you want to decorate, have at it. Tacky is in the eye of the beholder, anyway. Fun, personality, freedom and individualism is always welcome! :)

That is incredible! I can understand someone doing that and not realizing that the lights might bother someone else, but saying no after you politely asked them to turn them off at a reasonable hour? Wow.

Takes all kinds!

the glass chalk will leave a residue--unless the stewards have the heavy duty cleaner.. which they do not.

I would hate to have a cabin with people who used sticky tape on their door and wrote on their plexiglass on the balcony.
