Smoking on Solstice?

We are new to Celebrity and I see mentions of smoking aboard. What, exactly, is Celebrity's smoking policy? We are non-smokers and want to know exactly what to expect.

Celebrity has one of the most strict smoking policies of all cruise lines. There is no smoking in cabins, on balconies or any indoor area including the casino. There are a few outdoor spots where one can smoke and only one area where cigars and pipes may be smoked. Here's the written policy.

 

For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Therefore, to provide an onboard environment that also satisfies smokers, we have designated certain areas of the ship as "smoking areas." Generally, smoking is not permitted except in designated areas. (Contact Guest Relations for additional details). This policy includes smoking-like products such as electronic cigarettes.

 

Smoking is not permitted inside any guest stateroom; nor on any guest veranda. If a guest is in violation of this policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to their SeaPass account and the guest may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of this Guest Conduct Policy.

 

Celebrity Cruises kindly asks all guests to please observe the non-smoking areas and to refrain from smoking cigarettes, pipes or cigars in any of the non-designated areas. These requests are made to provide a comfortable shipboard environment for everyone.

 

Where permitted, cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must always be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco.

For most ships we've beeon on, smoking is generally restricted to the port side of the outside/open decks.

Here is a link to a list of the smoking areas on our recent Silhouette cruise. I believe the smoking areas are the same on all S class ships - except that Reflection might be a little different since the top decks are laid out differently on that ship.

 

 

They used to leave a letter in the cabin on the smoking policy but on our last cruise there was just a note in the daily bulletin to check the info screens on the TV for smoking areas.

Both cruises I have done with Celebrity - my neighbours have smoked on their balcony. It. Is. Absolutely. Infuriating!!

 

The first one I reported; the second time I stuck my head around the divide and said "Do you know that you are not supposed to smoke on your balcony?...and if you carry on I will report you?"

 

If you stand on your balcony and look to either side you can usually SEE 3 or 4 cigarettes burning.

 

I do really like Celebrity's smoking policy - I just wish I didn't have to enforce it.

David, that's a terrible situation. But our experience has been very different. I've been on 16 Celebrity cruises, many of them sense they started the stringent non-smoking rules, and have not seen anything close to that. Found a cigar butt on my balcony one time and told our steward. He told me they were aware of who was smoking and they had been informed of the rules.

 

Although you've had balcony smokers, from my experience and from the many threads on this forum, what you are reporting is way out if the norm.

We were on the Solstice and I didn't see anyone smoking on their balcony. Now up at the aft bar - smokers everywhere on the port side. DH wanted to smoke his cigar and the same people were there every single day, smoking their cigars or cigarettes. What I couldn't believe is that folks went through complaining about the smoke. LOL. The rest of the ship is non-smoking....don't come to the aft bar ;).

You don't have to enforce it, Celebrity does a very good job of that.If guest relations doesn't do it keep going up the line as far as the captain.We have never had a problem with them taking care of this immediatly.

We have been on four celebrity cruises and always had a balcony and never had to report someone smoking.

But...once we had a port side balcony in the middle of the ship which is where they can smoke around deck 5 and the smoke drifts up to the balconies in the middle. So..be careful of that.
