cruise_alot123 Posted April 10, 2013 #451 Share Posted April 10, 2013  1. I paid $1,688 for the cruise net of taxes, fees, and gratuity. 2. I'll already be in Germany so I'm not paying to fly anywhere. The train will cost me about $150. 3. My wife and I are in Peace Corps. We have no income other than what they give us for a living allowance and in Mongolia that ain't much. 4. Luckily we have no debt and are very mobile but by the time we get to Copenhagen we will have no job, no income, and about $10,000 to our name. 5. I am young, strong, and full of stamina so if my wife wants to walk 3 miles it's not the end of the world...or my marriage. 6. Our PC service is done in July and PC will buy us flights home to the USA or give us the cash equivalent. The cost of the cruise plus travel from Mongolia to Europe is the same as the cost of a flight home from Mongolia. We're going home...the cruise is less than the cost of a flight from Europe to America so cruise it is. 7. There is a wide range of budgets. I don't think it's amazing to see people show up to the port in a limo, stay in the 6,000 sq ft Garden Villa, drop 20,000 at the casino, and pay extra for specialty dining every night. 8. Just because a hot dog costs $10 in Copenhagen doesn't mean you should LOL @ me because I can't afford it. :p On a somewhat similar subject, the citybike system of public bike transportation was phased out in 2012 and a new system called gobike (gobike.com or gobike.dk) will be introduced in the 3rd quarter of 2013 according to the gobike staff that E-mailed me. So, gone are the 20 kroner coin operated bikes :(. The new bike system is totally integrated into the latest technology and looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. Details are scarce but it doesn't seem like it will be a free system like the coin operated bikes were which is really the sad part about all this. The new gobike system looks like it is pretty cool though. Most people would LOL @ U without knowing your background in the PC because most Americans going on a Baltic cruise on average paid about 5K + for their cruise and I doubted that any man out there is willing to walk 3 miles with luggages to save 8 bucks. However, I think you and your wife are doing the country a great service for joining the PC and helping the needy around the world. Keep up the great services and if I do run into you and your wife, beers and hot dogs are on me or perhaps add some Swedish meatballs to it too :). wjb2613 Posted April 10, 2013 #452 Share Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) Hey you people! Stop laughing at me. :D cruise_alot123 - My DW lived in Wash.DC at Capitol Hill near Eastern Market before we got married. We have family there. We are there every year...if we're not abroad that is. We'll meet you at We The Pizza for a pint and pie and laugh about the time you offered to buy me a hot dog. Enjoy the Cherry Blossoms! I hope the recent cold weather hasn't sent them to an early demise this year. "In 1807 the British attacked Copenhagen from the sea and then landed thousands of troops and destroyed most of the city. Several historians consider this battle was the first terror attack against a major European city in modern times." Wikipedia-paraphrased. grancayman Posted April 10, 2013 #453 Share Posted April 10, 2013 You are pretty incredible! You should work in the tourist/guide business...I'm thinking you could get 100's of reference letters from your fans here on cruise critic! I have read thru all of the pages to see if my questions are answered and I actually have a couple that I haven't found! I'm coming to Copenhagen May 15th and leaving on the Star on the 16th. Staying at the Crowne Plaza. On the 15th, get in about 1 or so. After checking in, going to Fields (I know, I know..going to a shopping center, but I'm a retail buyer and it's my thing!) The next day going back to the airport (free shuttle) to go to the ship. I'm going early, with plans to leave my bags with the porter, and go exploring...I probably will have from 10-3 to do a walk around! However, when I come back from the cruise, I will be staying in Copenhagen a couple of days, again at Crowne Plaza. So I have Sat. and Sunday in Copenhagen. Now after all of that, the question is are there any flea markets and/or arts and craft markets that are easy to get to on the weekend. I definitely want to see the "historic" but I love just getting out and walking around and see what there is. I even like going to supermarkets...it's just intriguing to see how different people go about their daily lives. Anyway, sorry for the long winded post! And thanks again for all you do here! My office is right across the white house and I also go by Union station all the time. I think Ben's chili Bowl got better hot dogs than the one in Copenhagen which we could meet up and have a chow down on me of course. LOL.. Here is an overview of fleamarkets in Copenhagen. http://www.visitcopenhagen.com/shopping/flea-markets But i actually think that Torvehallerne is something for you. http://torvehallernekbh.dk/ "Torvehallerne is situated right by Nørreport Station, and offers more than 80 shops. Here you will find Danish delicacies, local vegetables, fresh fish, and Italien specialities. Torvehallerne were designed by architect Hans Hagens and opened in September 2011." chappy851 Posted April 11, 2013 #457 Share Posted April 11, 2013 2 couples will be staying 1 night in Copenhagen pre-cruise. We will have 1 1/2 days. Looking for a suggestion for hotel. Probably best to stay around the main attractions. Also, is it possible to set up a car service for airport- hotel and then hotel - port the following day? Danish viking Posted April 11, 2013 Author #458 Share Posted April 11, 2013 Copenhagen Stay (or is it Stay Copenhagen) is not located near any attractions at all. And do you need one big room for 4 people or 2 rooms for 2 people. I know that there already is alot of pages but i posted a list with the best hotels in Copenhagen somewhere back in this thread.:D Its possible to hire a car but must of the companies are working in the high end market so it will be cheaper to just take a taxi instead. Alaskanb Posted April 12, 2013 #466 Share Posted April 12, 2013 (edited) Hello: I am trying to find out how to use the 11A city bus. I have the route map http://www.moviatrafik.dk/dinrejse/kort/trafikkort/Documents/Hovedstadsomraadet/11A_rutekort.pdf Do you know if there have been any changes to the bus stops due to construction? We will be in the city on a Sunday afternoon and evening in early June --we would like to take the bus from the Carlsberg Glyptotek to Nyhavn. How late does the bus run? Can we buy a return ticket on the bus? Can you buy a ticket that will allow us to get on and off for several hrs? So many questions--I have been unable to locate an English version of the bus website. Thank you for all your help.... But here is what the website says: or buy it at sales points in the city: Copenhagen Airport , The Visitors Centre, at major train stations and at a number of hotels. There is a list of sales points at the website.
2ashevillesailors Posted April 14, 2013 #471 Share Posted April 14, 2013 Hi Danish Viking, So glad that I found this thread :) Do you think it is possible to make a 12:30 transatlantic flight on the day of disembarkation? I understand it takes half an hour to get from the cruise terminal to the airport... let's say we are off the ship by 9 am... What do you think, should we risk it? I am afraid of the traffic, however on Sunday there is probably not a lot of it? Please advise :) I wold say no, you definitely Ned a minimum of two hours at the airport or more. Danish viking Posted April 15, 2013 Author #473 Share Posted April 15, 2013 Hi Danish Viking --finally located the English section of the website and found buses that we need. Still have questions about bus tickets. Thanks. A single ticket in 2 zones (the minimum amount of zones) is valid in 1 hour in 2 zones. The city pass (24 hour and 72 hour) that is valid in Copenhagen and airport area and 24 hour transportation card is also a cheap option if you don´t need the Copenhagen Card. The 24 hour transportation card and the Copenhagen Card is valid for train and busses in the greater Copenhagen area, Citypass is not. The City pass is covering zones 1, 2, 3 and 4 and the two other cards is covering all of it. A 2 zone ticket purchased in zone 1 is only valid on the blue areas (zone 2 or 3) http://www.moviatrafik.dk/dinrejse/kort/zoneoversigt/Documents/Hovedstadsomraadet/1.pdf Does that explain it

Wierd i can´t find the original post so i will reply on this one. The recommended arrival time is 3 hours before departure time and the travel times is around 30 minutes so its probablly best to be at the taxi no later than 08:50-09:00.
