Oasis of the Seas vs Carnival Dream *pic*

My wife and are both Platinum on Carnival and have sailed on the Dream. The only RCCL cruise we have been on was on the Oasis of the Seas during her inaugural season. We loved sailing on the Oasis. As was mentioned by an earlier poster, it is more like being at a resort that happens to move and go to nice places.

We were extremely impressed by how quickly RCCL conducts the embarcation and debarcation process. They were even amazingly fast about getting all 6000 passengers off the ship at ports of call.

The only thing we regretted about our Oasis cruise is that we decided to try one of their "interior balconies" just for the novelty of the experience. For us, that was a mistake. We missed seeing the water and being able to leave our drapes open for the whole cruise.

That monstrosity of the sea has a ugly back end....should have made cabins all the way around instead.....

Sorry RCI, your ships have no features that I want to enjoy in a vacation, I would put my money on a Carnival (or Princess, or NCL, or HAL) ship instead..I WANT to feel the motion of the ocean!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I find the fact that they thought outside the box, and came up with something new, rather refreshing.

Just because someone thinks the back or any other part of ship is ugly, and agree it is as well, doesn't mean they think it's a bad ship. Or just because they don't have any desire to sail on it, and I do not, doesn't mean they think it's a bad ship. Just because you think it's the best ship on the water, doesn't mean we all agree. You can have you're favorite, everyone else can have theirs.

Funny, I don't recall saying that I felt it was the "best ship on the water"!

Having sailed on multiple lines would seem to indicate that I have no "favorite". I suggest that everyone branch out and test the waters, as that's the only way to have a perspective from which to compare and contrast.

No you didn't say that, but every time someone makes a comment you might think is negative, you come to the defend the ship. Maybe I'm wrong  and just because you cruise other lines doesn't mean you can't have a favorite What is yours ?

If I cared that much about what a ship looks like, I'd have never sailed the Miracle twice.

Honestly...what the structure of the ship looks like has a lot less affect on my feelings than what's on the inside and CCL's decor is and always has been imo, too over the top...Just as I HATE the hull art on NCL's ships. But the hull art didn't wreck my vacation and even the absolutely horrific Skittles in the mdr of the Miracle didn't hamper my cruise. One day I probably will even sail on that Box they call the Epic. I don't care what the ship looks like. I just want good service, entertainment and food.

As far as the size goes, I know a few people who have sailed Oasis/Allure and didn't feel crowded despite the number of passengers.

I agree Tom. So much of this is just the old "our team is better than theirs" mentality. I used to cruise CCL exclusively, then I decided to branch out as well. It was a great decision, there are so many cool ships out there to see! :D

Every cruise ship I've been on has the same core features: pool areas, staterooms, hot tubs, theaters, night clubs, bars, restaurants, shops, etc. Oasis and Allure have all of that, plus much more. In fact (with the exception of Carnival's water slides and ropes course) Oasis and Allure have the exact same features as every Carnival ship I've set foot on. So I'm not sure what you mean by their ships having "no features that you'd want to enjoy".

And to the point about motion, you'll feel it very easily. In fact, I felt more sway on Allure than many other ships. Probably due to the ship's height and hull design.

I'm sure the Oasis and Allure are wonderful ships with something for everyone but a ship that size doesn't even interest me. Too many people and too many lines. I will stick with Carnival.

I have been told by multi family members that have sailed on oasis and allure the lines are shorter than carnival ships in general! I was told those 2 ships have 24 or 25 dinning venues on each ship , I think they said it has 7 pools maybe more ,and in general shorter lines cause so much more to do ! I am going on oasis nxt spring !!! But I have to see it for myself ! We like carnival as well! But I can see how too much to do would be so overwelming. Heck My 1st cruise I was mad cause I did'nt get to do it all !!

Something tells me the revenues from the bars and casino may be a little lower than average.

Though.. things are not always what they seem. Take Utah for example: LINK

Tom

Actually the bars and casino will be shuttered for the four day charter. Sounds like a very boring cruise to me. ;)

Tom, I know that you just cruised on the Reflection. I will be cruising on her in five weeks. Looking forward to trying a Solstice class ship. The photos that I have seen shows a beautiful ship.

After reading this thread and many others, it appears that Oasis/Allure are ships that people love or don't. Doesn't appear to be too many thoughts and comments in the middle.

Problem I've seen with the don't opinions is that they are coming from people who have never been on.

Interesting! Last weekend I was booking 6 additional cabins for our Oasis cruise (for our annual office cruise and our sons). Since there were no interiors for our sons and a couple of their friends near our mid-ship cabin the RCI represenitive was encouraging me to book fully forward to get them on the same deck. She repeatedly told me, after I said the very front is usually where you can feel motion the most, that she's never had anyone complain about movement on the Oasis/Allure (forward cabins) like they do on other ships. I understand that they're very large but did not want to be responsible for their discomfort if there are unusually high seas. Thus I ended up getting them all mid-ship in Central Park view cabins.

The first 3 office cruises I took my staff on were all on Carnival, as that's the only line we were really sailing then. After a friend (fellow CC'er) talked us into the Epic I was so impressed with all that there was to do that we took them on that ship next. They all remarked how much fun it was... I didn't think it was just me!

Last year we all went on the Carnival Legend, and although everyone had a good cruise, it admittedly fell short of the fun we all had on the Epic. Though I have to say that the Steakhouses on Carnival are our favorite specialty restaurants among all the lines we've tried.

... and that's how we ended up choosing the Oasis for my staff --- they are going to have a blast!!

I do love CCL steakhouses...although even they didn't compare to my Celebrity Steak House experience (but that was back in 2006, ~Infinity~ so things may have changed a bit since then)....the service and food were totally unbelievable.

W - O - W !!!

They must have paid a pretty penny for that sailing, for RCI to forgo that backbone revenue!!

It is a very attractive class of ship. I think you'll be impressed!

I recall our first Celebrity cruise on the Century in 2008. When we dined in Murano we were quite impressed. Entering the restaurant we passed by their harpist - setting a nice mood for the evening. The second night we were in there we opted to try the wine pairing menu. Being served Château Lafite Rothschild as one of the wines was quite impressive, not only as it was close to $400/bottle, but was one of the first red wines that I really enjoyed (it took me awhile to come around to enjoying wines)! I recall the taste/presentation of the goat cheese souffle that everyone on CC had recommended. It was excellent.

Fast forward just one Celebrity sailing after that, and they've done away with the harpist (just like Carnival did away with their live music - back when it was a "Supper Club"). A few more Celebrity sailings later saw the changing of little things like the goat cheese souffle - now missing it's small pastry "cage". Their menu is markedly different than Carnival's Steakhouse, and I've tried most everything on there that I care to. Aside from the Dover Sole, I really don't find anything on there that really wows me. Their meat is not prime (nor is it on NCL), only Carnival can claim that honor - oddly enough!

The only bone I really have to pick about, as far as Carnival's Steakhouse goes, would be: when they have such a great cheesecake at their coffee shop/dessert place (where you pay something like $3 for it) why do they give you that huge piece of cheesecake in the Steakhouse which pales in comparison? BRING ME THE REAL DEAL! lol (I think I'll ask for that on the Breeze :D)

Wow...Nothing like coming to a conclusion without real personal experience:p

We've been on both ships twice... CCl Dream 2x's in a year and just got back from our 2nd time on Oasis in 6 mos....couldn't experience everything in a week:eek:

Hands down the Oasis is an incredably incomparable cruise experience!!

The Dream was...well, a newer and larger, standard Carnival cruise, with increasing cutbacks in every area that we look for to enjoy cruising.

The cost is definitely a factor, but if you cruise off-season, stack discounts -i.e. free pre-paid gratuities, and crown and anchor disc, and TA's OBC it can be affordable.

Was wow'ed by most shows and great to have all the on board bands reminesient of our former Carnival cruises.

A couple points re. Oasis: The dance band is an OK, a cover band from Manilla.

Classic rock bands are an Endangered Species" on cruises these days:(

Don't expect much other than the "theme" for the advertised time slot. The steel drum deck band was great. No annoying announcements.

There's alwas something happening with no "dead spots", like between 4:00pm - 8pm on the daily cruise calender.

Great roast beef on hard roll featured til 6pm on deck 7, Park Place

Amy, present CD is not anoying, thats something...

Hoping to try Celebrity next year after our 6 day Balt.-to Bermuda cruise.

We would still look forward to another Carnival cruise, but it's good to sample what else is out there.

That is quite a shame that X has downgraded so much. I do recall that goat cheese souffle (it was probably the best food item I have ever had on a ship) but the amazing thing was that we were a table of 10 and when our entres came out, 10 waiters came to the table and ceremoniously placed all our silver-domed plates in front of us with a flourish. The service was not typical of a cruise ship.

Sad that has changed.

That cheesecake from CCL steakhouses is amazing. I usually pack it to go (thank heavens for the refrigerator in the cabins) and spend days eating it. I've never tried the cheesecake from the coffee shop. Is it better that the steakhouse one, REALLY? How much better can cheesecake get?

Yes - the lifting of the plate covers (I can hear it now). They don't seem to put the same emphasis on that as they used to, though I still see them doing it in some fashion.

I know that some people must enjoy that cheesecake for them to keep offering it (yourself included)! It's just not the heavy/creamy cheesecake I tend to enjoy. It's too light. Though granted, if it was the kind I like, and you managed to eat the size slice they bring you - you'd probably sink to the bottom of the ocean!
