H2Otstr Posted January 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2013 We are starting a Christmas Markets cruise in Nuremberg. Thinking about either adding extra days in Nuremburg or staying later in Frankfurt. Was wondering if we come early is there enough to see in or around the area ? If so, what would you recommend? Also, can you recommend a hotel in Nuremberg? There will be 4 of us. Cruise starts on Dec 8, 2013. Thanks, Sharon
ingo_e Posted January 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2013 Well, let me first of all just drop some links: Museums: If you want to stay in the city center, I would recommend to have a look at the German National Museum: http://www.gnm.de/index.php?id=384 or the Toy Museum (just 1 block away from the main market square where the christmas market ist - you can always use that as an option to warm up :)) http://www.museums.nuremberg.de/toy-museum/index.html . If you want info on WW2 I recommend the Documentation Center on the former Ralley Grounds and to have a look at Courtroom 600 (it is still an active courtroom, so better to call them on the same day in order to check if Room600 is accessible. General overview at http://www.museums.nuremberg.de/ What might be of interest (and another chance to warm up) are the rock cut cellars - below Nurembergs old town are about 25.000qm / 6.2 acre of medieval beer cellars. Guided tours daily http://www.felsengaenge-nuernberg.de/en/home.html Hotels: Uh, I don't know, as I live in the area, need no hotel room - SCNR :) I posted a list of hotels some time ago at http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=28528375&postcount=11 Sports: Maybe you want to mix in with the locals, Nuremberg has a soccer, basketball & ice hockey team. But I would actually recommend going to Fürth (my favorite team) for a football match. :) Greater Nuremberg: From your option Nuremberg OR Frankfurt I am reading you'll going to Well, if you got enough of Nuremberg, it just takes 1hour by train and you are in Regensburg , 1 1/2 hours to Munich. 45 minutes to Bamberg. Or rent a car and check out Rothenburg ob der Tauber (via one of the famous german motorways with no speed limit) :)

Rare franski Posted January 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2013 Thanks, Ingo_e. Thanks from me as well... We will ending our cruise in Nuremburg this September as we have chosen not to go on to the Prague with the rest of the group. We are trying to decide how long to stay (ie: an extra 1 or 2 days) - and this information will definitely help us with our planning. Fran
ingo_e Posted January 25, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2013 You're welcome. Btw, I forgot about the http://www.staatstheater-nuernberg.de/ state opera and symphony orchestra: http://www.nuernbergersymphoniker.de/
4774Papa Posted January 25, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2013 You might consider visiting Munich for a few days prior to your river cruise. Frankfurt doesn't have that much to see. Nothing wrong with staying in Nuernberg, but there is a lot to see in Munich.
