Merion_Mom Posted January 28, 2013 #30 Share Posted January 28, 2013 I also agree that the trademarked names are awful. However, I wish they would avoid using names that other cruise companies use. Like Gem of the Seas is great, but there is already a NCL Gem. And, I love Sunshine of the Seas, but Carnival just renamed one of their ships Sunshine. Also, I wasn't so keen on Allure or Oasis when those names were first announced, but they did grow on me over time. I have no problems with the names chosen. At least it's something different. I don't like having names that cross cruise lines such Norwegian Jewel, Jewel of the Seas, Carnival Freedom, Freedom of the Seas, etc. you get the picture. At least they're different. Okay, you want names that NO ONE ELSE HAS USED? Frangipani of the Seas Patchouli of the Seas
toocruisin2 Posted January 28, 2013 #31 Share Posted January 28, 2013 Being that the Sunshine class is rumored to be sailing out of the NY metro area, and the new trademarks may apply to that class ship, how about Empire of the Seas to honor the Empire State? :)
bagzrpacked Posted January 28, 2013 #32 Share Posted January 28, 2013 I know it's been discussed before already on other threads. But a story in my local newspaper's travel section yesterday about the names that Royal Caribbean had trademarked a couple of months ago got me thinking... and I'm not sure I like them. Anthem of the Seas - a singing ship? Passion of the Seas - no comment! :D Vantage of the Seas - sounds like a credit card Quantum of the Seas - time travel ship? Ovation of the Seas - chococates on the pillows? probably not! Pulse of the Seas - Hate it! :D I can hear my dear mother now..... Hi, honey yer dad and I are booked to go on that Ovulation of the Seas! Supposed to be reeeaaal nice! LoL.

Andy Posted February 5, 2013 #36 Share Posted February 5, 2013 Here's the Press Release : http://www.royalcaribbeanpresscenter...construction-/ ROYAL CARIBBEAN INTERNATIONAL MARKS FIRST MAJOR MILESTONE OF PROJECT SUNSHINE CONSTRUCTION World's Most Innovative Cruise Line Celebrates Steel Cutting and Reveals Names of Newest Ships MIAMI, February 5, 2013 – Royal Caribbean International took a major step this week in the development of the cruise line’s next generation of cruise ships when the first piece of steel was cut for the first of two Project Sunshine ships. The steel cutting took place at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, where the two ships will be built. To celebrate the milestone, Royal Caribbean announced the names of the two new ships – Quantum of the Seas, set to debut in fall 2014, and Anthem of the Seas, which will follow in spring 2015. They will be part of the Quantum class of ships and will build upon Royal Caribbean’s legacy of revolutionary ship design and bold innovation. “We are extremely excited to celebrate this important milestone for our first Project Sunshine ship. After three years of design and advance planning this is the first step of the construction of the ship and I look forward to seeing it all come together in the coming months,” said Adam Goldstein, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. “The new ship will be such a leap forward in terms of vessel design and guest experiences that we thought the name Quantum of the Seas was perfectly appropriate.” Royal Caribbean International’s legacy is built on introducing ‘at sea firsts’ such as rock-climbing walls, ice-skating rinks, surf simulators, zip lines and even a tropical park with over 12,000 live plants. The Quantum class of ships will continue to build on this legacy with unprecedented experiences and amenities. They will once again deliver on Royal Caribbean’s tradition of designing for ‘WOW’. “Throughout our history we have made huge strides in cruise ship design and innovation and the Quantum class will be no exception,” said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. “We look forward to introducing consumers to Quantum cruising." Additional details about Quantum of the Seas will be unveiled in the coming months. cruisegirl1 Posted February 5, 2013 #42 Share Posted February 5, 2013 Perhaps it is me – but the name of the ship is probably the least important thing to me. I don’t care what they name it, what color it is painted, what it looks like. Some ship are boxy, some sleek, etc. These points never come into play ( for me) when selecting a cruise Ship amenities yes – design no. Just saying. RicardoC Posted February 6, 2013 #50 Share Posted February 6, 2013 I can hear my dear mother now..... Hi, honey yer dad and I are booked to go on that Ovulation of the Seas! Supposed to be reeeaaal nice! LoL. Hahaha that's what I keep thinking....how can you say "Boarding the Ovation tomorrow" or "Had a blast onboard the Ovation!" ?? I'm getting used to Quantum and Anthem but I cannot get over Ovation...hope it never gets used  As a sidenote what do you guys think about using past names just like Princess does? I think a "new" Sovereign class, for example, would be great since all three ships will be gone by next year. They can even add a (also "new") Empress of the Seas and what not in case they build more later ;)
