This is what my silly husband wants to bring onboard

My husband ADORES sitting out on the balcony. For a LONG time! He isn't sitting there reading a book, nor is he tanning or sleeping. No, he just enjoys looking. Whether there's land to look at or not.

On our past cruises, he would get so frustrated that the rail was at just the WRONG height when you're sitting down. It's fine if he stands at the glass and leans on the rail, but to sit, he's either looking under it, or raising up and looking over it. That gets old after awhile.

So.... in all his craziness.... he had an idea to bring a bar stool. He found this on Amazon. It comes with 2 of them. His dad is cruising with us this time (Dad's first cruise). They are two peas in a pod, so I'm sure they'll both be out there for hours at a time.

My question is, will they even ALLOW him to bring them??? He says he'll just bring them in the original shipping box. It would measure 37" high X 20" across, and maybe 4" deep. (Sorry, not sure if that's the proper way to quote measurements. I'm a girl LOL)

I know he's crazy, so don't flame me. I told him I'd get opinions here. Thanks.

Oh, almost forgot the link!! http://www.amazon.com/ORE-International-F-4009-Folding-Silvertone/dp/B000IZSNWO/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1359688053&sr=1-1&keywords=folding+bar+stool

That is great!

I think cruising is doing what you like to do and if this is it for your husband than he should go for it. It's not hurting anyone.

I can't imagine that he would have problems getting it on the ship either - people bring all sorts of things (car seats, strollers, tripods).

My husband gets ideas in his head like this sometimes and I let him run with it-I mean he puts up with my cruising habit!

Only suggestion is that he might find one a bit more collapsable or made w canvas so its easier to tote around. I also bet an industrious cabin steward might be able to snag him a bar stool for the balcony.

Have a fabulous cruise!

This one is a folding one. I wasn't sure if that's what you meant. Or do you mean like it would fold a second time... like top to bottom? Hard to explain what I mean... Not sure that there is such a thing though.

Great idea on asking the steward if he could get a bar stool!! I hadn't thought of that. Anyone know if the bar stools on the Jewel have backs? If they're going to be sitting for awhile, they'll need a backrest. The problem with that plan is that we wouldn't know until we get onboard if it would be possible.

It's not a weapon, it's not that large, and can't hide liquor ;) so personally I don't think they'd stop him from bringing it on board. Why not write someone at NCL and see what they say. If the answer is "yes" or "probably" print that email out and take it with you. Depending on how the chairs are packed you might be better off taking it out of the box, and carrying it in something easy to open in case security wants to take a look at it first. I think it's a cute idea and I hope he is able to Freestyle with his Dad and his bar stools. Happy Cruising!

I love to sit out on the balcony and just stare for hours too. I don't care if there is something to look at or not. I understand where he is coming from. I agree that that rail is just in the wrong place, but there is no way one of those stools would be as comfortable as the balcony chair to sit for that long.

I agree about the height. I think bringing an inflatable chair cushion would work since he only needs an inch or so to be able to see. Even the cushions for sporting events would work as well. Due to the height of his chairs they may feel its too dangerous to allow them on board

I remember seeing somewhere on here that some people brought bed risers to lift the chairs already on the balcony a few inches.

I know exactly how your husband feels, as I do the same thing. Must be a guy thing. :)

What I have found to work well is to ask the Steward for a lounger. It drops you down a couple of inches so you can see below the railing with no problem. It does however really fill up the space on the balcony.

If you are driving to the port why not bring them along and see what the cruiseline does. However, if you are flying to the port I would do like others have suggested and purchase some inflatable pillows because it wouldn't be worth the extra effort or price IMHO.

The steward will not be able to get him a bar stool. That idea is not great by any stretch. Yes sometimes a steward can get a lounger....that is because there are 1500 on board and no one will notice one missing.....

There are few bars on the Jewel that have bar stools. Most have tables. The casino bar has stools and I'm sure they won't give up a stool when they only have ten......

the outdoor stools at the bars are affixed to the deck so I doubt you are getting one of those.......

I think your foldable bar stool idea works just fine and no one will even notice.......
