Live: Silver Spirit Grand Pacific Voyage

Silver Spectre

Recommended Posts

Still the 13th here, just left Papeete, 23 released and a further 81 detained for the duration, so now have 447 pax.

Two lovely days in Moorea, o/n in Papeete and finally sailed away at 6.

Best news, the ship missed almost all of the rain, and rain hard on Moorea it did. Deck BBQ last night and not even a sprinkle.

Today we are in Bora Bora, Valentine's Day. Moorea two days ago was very lovely. Took a rather hair-raising 4x4 tour including a steep and narrow climb to the top of Magic Mountain. Then sailed the few miles to Papeete for an overnight. Yesterday, changeover day in Papeete, was lovely but hot and humid. I did a "helmet dive" tour which was wonderful. Lots of fish and fun.

And the Captain decided NOT to include the in-transit passengers in the lifeboat drill! Only the new passengers had to attend the muster.

Bora Bora today, pretty island. Several of its resort hotels are currently closed because of economic troubles. Tomorrow Raiatea, which is nearby.

This 19 day segment to L.A. has 3 formal days, 9 informal, 7 casual. We haven't seen any gross dress code violations, but we haven't really paid much attention. So far we've dined everywhere but Stars and have been pleased with the food and service.

Moorea. Does that graffiti mean that they love Col. Wes??

Loved Bora Bora yesterday, there was rain but it missed the ship, and there was the most beautiful sunset. Visited Raiatia (spelling) today, and woke up to find us docked, another bonus. Only stayed until 2 and then the captain sailed us through the lagoon on our way out. A really beautiful sail out. Rain about this evening and we now have a bit of a swell.

Trivia yesterday was enlivened by the screaming Italian child, the father eventually got the message and left, but not before coming close to a watery ejection! Dinner in the Terrratza was also treated to a good screaming fit.

Really not sure why one would bring an 18 month old onboard just to p*** so many people off.

Formal night tonight, and the vast majority are tarted up correctly.

Great sea day, weather cooling though and some serious rainfall at the end of the afternoon.

Another day of tough trivia.

Did not see any dress code violations on formal night and the MDR was almost full to bursting, only 8 guests booked for hot rock. La Terraza out of bounds because of screaming Nico.

Cross the dateline at 5am and loose Sunday tomorrow.

How unfortunate about the screaming 18 month old child. We were on the Panama Canal cruise that preceded your voyage and Nico and his parents were as well. We experienced no such issues then and thought he was a real cutie -- maybe he's tired of cruising.

But someone (i.e on the staff) needs to get this under control.

He was very well behaved in early January and also quite adorable. Perhaps he is getting tired of cruising...I think he is on for 3 or 4 months.....

Don't know how to get these anything other than thumbnail. Closet doors on either side of the TV wall and drawers opposite the bed. There is an entrance from both the hallway (which is quite a bit narrower than on the Shadow/Whisper) and the bedroom.

Part of the problem is that he has no interaction with any other children and the staff treat him like a favoured guest, so he screams when he is frustrated. I am not blaming the child, but the parents make no effort to get him away from the other guests when he is having a tantrum

Today we get our day back, this being the first of our 2 thursdays.

2 days ago we visited Xmas Island, huge queues for the 30 minute tender ride into the lagoon, at times less than 1/2 a metre clearance for the tender. A large number of guests gave up and did not get ashore, which was a shame. Not very much there but lovely (apart from the copious amount of rubbish which was everywhere).

Yesterday was Fanning Island, and only a small portion of the guests got ashore, mainly due to a very heavy squall. We left 2 1/2 hours early and had both strong winds and a heavy swell, bad enough to shut the elevators down. Still windy today but not so rough.

How interesting about Christmas Island--very different from what I imagined.

How high were the swells/waves yesterday? I can't remember the last time I was on a ship when the elevators were shut down due to swells....

As Silver Spirit said, the seas are still rough but a bit better. Hilo, Hawaii tomorrow with forecasts of rain. Christmas Island was somewhat depressing with all the trash around, not many people. Fanning was prettier to us, but again very little infrastructure- no electricity or running water on Fanning. Friendly people, visitors are a rare event for them.

Internet has been spotty lately, look forward to better as well as U.S. cellphone service in Hawaii! A couple of photos:
