jrowland Posted February 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2013 Was looking at a possible cruise from Istanbul to Rome and noticed one major cruise company had a cruise scheduled in June 2013 and the exact same cruise was also available in August 2013 but the August cruised was priced $1000 more than the June cruise. Wondered why the difference in price for the exact same cruise and itinerary?
germanyboy Posted February 1, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2013 In June in most places, most kids may still be in school. Less demand than August. And more Europeans have August off for vacations, more demand, prices go up. One possible reason.
Sheffie Posted February 1, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2013 It's about the timing.....supply and demand. Cruise prices usually are higher for the popular times. For instance, Thanksgiving and Christmas cruises are higher than other times, and the weeks between those holidays are some of the cheapest. Many children are still in school for part of June, and they are out in August. I would guess that is a big factor.

Rare Hlitner Posted February 1, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2013 You can even find different prices (and amenities) for the exact same cruise. Although most of the mass market cruise lines have tried to implement price controls, there are still some pretty major variations on many cruises if one takes a few minutes to shop around. As an example, we saved about $3000 on a particular Holland America cruise (this past year) by simply shopping among several of our favorite TAs. In other cases you can get some additional amenities (such as OBCs, included alternative restaurants, drink packages, pre/post cruise hotels, etc) by simply shopping for a cruise just like most folks shop for other high-end objects and services.
