Pre-Cruise (Christmas 2013) in San Juan

We are booked on a 7 night, New Year cruise out of San Juan, starting on Dec 28th. We are planning to spend 4-5 days in SJ before Cruise. That takes us right into Christmas and Boxing day. We have never been to the Caribbean are hoping that our CC community will come to our rescue, to make this a memorable holiday.

Questions that we are debating are as follows:

a) Stay in OSJ and take day trips to see other parts of SJ & DR

b) Stay outside of OSJ and use cabs to visit OSJ (day or night)

c) What do you think as the best way to spend Christmas in SJ.

All ideas are welcome, as we are open to all suggestions and are not restricted to the two mentioned above.

Thank you,

Time needed for OSJ depends on one's interests. I would feel short-changed if given an opportunity for a longer stay, I spent only one day in the city. There is much to see and experience, especially if one enjoys museums, galleries, and historic sites. But also if one likes to soak up local atmosphere.

Thanks for your guidance.

It would be nice to split the time between OSJ and another part of DR.

I understand most of the places in OSJ will be closed on Christmas and Boxing day. We can be in OSJ on Dec 23rd, 24th & part of 25th, to enjoy lights, sounds & sights of Christmas.

For Dec 26th & 27th and part of 28th, we can move to another part DR.

I know there is a lot of time from now until Christmas, but already some hotels are not taking reservations for those dates. We must make our plans now and book the hotels.

Kindly suggest what other part of DR (away from San Juan) will be most enjoyable for beaches, traditional food and of course Christmas celebrations.

All suggestions are welcome…..thank you.
