What exactly are you trying to say?

 

Are you saying that you believe that they are having 4 days of a wonderful fun time?

 

Please be clear if you are serious or scarcastic.

 

I'm not saying it...it's the person who keeps posting that she'd be happy as a clam, sitting out on her balcony, talking and texting away on her phone that would clearly still get a signal and have battery life. If you re-read what I wrote, you'll know I'm saying that people keep trying to tell her that's not how it would be, but she seems to think otherwise.

You obviously have not been adrift at sea without power and facilities. I have several years ago on the Carnival Liberty for 14 hours. It is NOT a fun time. I feel for these people who are stuck for 4 days in these horrible conditions

 

No kidding! I am a fan of Carnival and cruising in general but NO WAY would I want to be on the Triumph right now. Not even if they paid me. All you people that say you would rather be out there than at work or "a bad day at sea is better than a good day at work" must really hate your job/career. Seriously. Some of you cheerleaders just astound me. For the people on the ship dealing with crowded public areas and other unfavorable conditions, my thoughts are with you.

NBC news just ran a update: There is a Coast Guard Cutter parked next to the ship as well as another Carnival Cruise Ship. They are awaiting a tug boat which will take the ship to a port in Mexico.

 

All passengers will be disembarked and travel arrangements will be made from this town in Mexico (didn't catch the name) for travel back to their home cities.

 

Carnival will issue a full refund to all passengers on the ship plus a coupon for a free cruise in the future and a discount for future cruises.

 

The NEXT TWO cruises are CANCELLED. Passengers on those cruises will be reimbursed for the fares they paid, given a coupon for a free cruise and a discount on a future cruise.

 

That is the latest from NBC. It may take up to four days to get the ship back to the port in Mexico.

Not nearly what the Concordia disaster did. Shareholder confidence in the parent company will decline as they experience one after another financially catastrophic events. Their insurance premiums will climb which will affect their bottom line as well.

 

Your right, Concordia has, just on the surface alone,

the added lawsuits, loss of life and associated legal fees,

enviromental cleanup from oil and fuel spillage along with other factors,

total loss of a multimillion dollar ship and all expected revenue that it would have generated,

not to mention the cost of salvage alone which will be in the $millions

I have no idea what happened in this case an neither do you, but mechanical problems can and do happen without warning. To say this was within carnivals control is just a careless assumption on your part.

From a LEGAL perspective, mechanical failures are considered to be under the control of the carrier, be it bus, plane, train, ship, taxi, or horse and buggy.

All of the news agencies are now reporting that they now have bathroom facilities available.

 

And they would be wrong.

 

The coast guard has reported they only have the fore terlots working.

 

Aft are not.

 

Do not know where that dividing line is.

Ok, I can respect that.

 

Now I ask you to respect that some folks feel Carnival is responsible b/c a mechanical failure is in theory within the cruise line's control. In particular there is a reasonable suspicion of fault b/c of the ongoing mechanical issues with Triumph since December.

 

The next few days will undoubtedly bring greater clarity as to the situation onboard, and my prayers and good wishes go to all who are affected. But we may never know more regarding the mechanical issues than we do now.

I didn't say definite conclusion, I said reasonable suspicion of fault due to recent pattern of mechanical problems. And it is not a careless assumption to expect cruise lines to take responsibility for their engines.

 

I take a bus to NYC every day. If it breaks down, whose fault is it? And if that bus was having transmission issues for the last two months... well, you get the picture?

As to the strings attached comment, the cruise will need to be booked and taken within a certain amount of time. Some people might not be able to get the time off from work, others might not be able to afford to travel to the port.

 

The base cost of the cruise is only part of the cost of vacation. Some people don't get paid vacation, so taking time off for another cruise would mean no pay for a week. People will still need to pay for pet care, child care or any number of other items.

 

There is no such thing as a "free cruise."

 

You can call it what you want " free cruise " or anything you want, but what more do you think carnival should do ? They are not just paying them back for the base cruise, they are also paying travel expenses and everything they spent on the ship, minus casino and gift shop. They will most Likely give them a year to book, they can book it another year out. That's two years to take the cruise, most everyone can do that. They take the money carnival reimburses them to pay for the cruise. It's not like these people were not going to prolly cruise again anyway. So any other expenses they would have had anyway,

So you are speculating and with the full refund and other charges being picked up by Carnival, this cruise isn't going to cost passengers all that much.

 

I'm talking about the "free future cruise."

 

It's yet to be seen how many auxiliary costs CCL picks up for the current cruise. They are only picking up return travel costs, not the costs of peoples total travel--which for some could be thousands per cabin.

I'm tired of all the fighting and speculation... My parents are onboard and have not heard anything from them. I hope the comments about the food are incorrect as my father has diabetes he controls strictly by diet (no meds) so the types of food he needs are very important. I am worried about him getting nutrition, the low carb diet that he needs. Won't hurt anyone to sleep on deck (if that's even true), but his blood sugar is very important.

To me, it sounds like a nightmare. Limited toilets, no showers, can't go to your private cabins, none to very limited power, no a/c, etc.

 

Not the way I'd want to spend a vacation...

Have you ever been camping? I mean really camping? But that can be done without roughing it up too. Years ago, our friend wanted to go camping. He rented a campsite at Disney with electric hookup and air conditioner for his tent!

Actually, last I read, the Elation has already left, and the Legend is on its way, with provisions and to remove one passenger in need of dialysis.

I optimistic person I make a bad situation into a good situation. I would love to get stuck (not in summer hot months without ac) this time of year out there. Passengers were given full refund, they are given future credit for the price they paid for their crise for a future cruise....they have food and refreshment, I be in my glory!

 

We not have the proper information to know whether the passengers are allowed to use their cabins if so how better of a situation could it be if they do have access to their cabins!

 

Some people only complain, some only see and think of the gloom, some people just nothing will satisfy them. These things happen, its called daily life's problems....accidents happen, we learn to deal with them. Carnival did their best in this situation for the passengers.

 

The way I would also think, I would say better this happened on a ship than an airplane up in the sky.

You must live a blessed life if you think "most people" can come up with the cost of airfare, pet care, parking, etc in two years. Many can not.

 

Here's what I think they should do.

 

1. Total cost of this cruise and the delay reimbursed--that means everything from cruise fare, taxes, port fees, hotels, all transportation costs including parking, pet care, time off from work, etc.

 

2. The choice of a free cruise of the same length in the same category stateroom to be booked and taken within the next FIVE years OR the cost of their cabin, taxes, and port charges for this cruise paid by check to the people who either choose not to cruise again or for whatever reason are unable to.

Trying to get caught up on all this, we really dodged a bullet last week! We got on after the propulsion issue and before this, and made all our ports on time. Poor Triumph, I hope they get her fixed up soon and everyone makes it home safely.

I second all of this.... as long as the bars remained open :D

 

But seriously I'm sure this has undoubtedly been difficult for many onboard with all that comes with being stranded without common necessities.
