Fire on Carnival Triumph. No engines, running on emergency generators.

Time will tell of negligence or design error, but I can tell you this, DH was in the Navy, he says EVERY time that they went out to sea they had propulsion issues, some caused mechanically, some by outside problems (fish).

Good news is everyone was safely brought home, this was an eye-opener and I would bet some new measures will be put in place.

This isn't Congress. A paid actor isn't necessary. Genuine honesty by leadership is appreciated.

A media relations person is not an actor. They are a professional with particular expertise in interfacing with the media. They are very good at relating facts and correcting misinformation. They have the time to answer the same question seven or eight times, regardless of how trivial it may seem. They are able to concentrate on providing information to the media since they don't have to spend time doing their day job. They know enough to not walk away from a question they don't want to answer.

Doesn't the Jones Act make American built and flagged cruise ships essentially unrealistic? Cannot blame Carnival for archaic protectionist legislation.

No, the Jones act is intended to limit non-US flagged ships to encourage US flagged ships.

The item that prevents US flagged ships is that US flagged ships must meet US labor and safety laws such as minimum wage, employment taxes, OSHA, etc.

They come off as phony to me. Carnival has nothing to hide. Why would they walk away?

Worth enough that i wouldnt want US bureaucrats controlling the cruise industry cause when you wanna investigate carnival you gotta investigate all "foreign flagged"

Hmmm. Guess you want to get rid of the (NTSB) National Transportation Safety Board, and perhaps the FAA as well. 4 years of accident free heavy aviation transport travel in the US does not convince you one bit that your disdain for "US bureaucracy" can function by providing us all a safe travel environment???

Yea right-- So, welcome back to your laissez-faire plutocratic hegemony.

And of course that would make offering a four day cruise for under $200 rather a problem
