The definitive Cheers program Thread

On the Magic, we were unable to purchase it on the first day, so the tax situation did not apply. We purchased it on the first Sea Day and all purchases from day 1 were just normal purchases. We were able to purchase additional drinks at menu price after exceeding the 15 drinks per day. It appears this policy is different from ship to ship. The program is still in the testing phase. They may be trying out different policies.

Any idea when they might make this program fleet wide, or at least available on the fascination?

Personally, I don't think that the older ships that usually sail the shorter itineraries are ever going to get the program. Carnival is trying to get away from the "party ship" reputation and having the Cheers program on the shorter itinerary cruises that tend to sometimes be more rowdy would just be adding fuel to the fire.

I was wondering if drinks like Italian coffee and other coffee drinks could be used in the cheers program. These are not specialty coffee's but drinks made with a coffee mixer. Its just reg. coffee.

I need some clarity for those that have already tried the Cheers Program....

Some said that they were charged tax if they bought it on the 1st day, some said that they waited until the 2nd day....my questions are :

1) Is the tax thing depending on what state the ship is departing from that they have to enforce the state sales tax if the ship is still in port?

2) If you buy it on the 2nd day, do they charge you for 6 days if it is a 7 day cruise and what happens to all the drinks you bought on the 1st day? Do you get charged for those or do they credit it back when you purchase the program.

Another $7 per day is making me rethink it.

1) You are charged the tax only while in port and it is per drink not on the plan. So it's a zero sum thing.

2) If you purchase the second day it is only for the remainder of the cruise.

If you buy it on day 2 you only pay for 6 days, day 1 is not factored in. I think I paid about $293 when I bought it on day 2

Then whatever drinks you bought on day 1, you just were charged for and was not included in the program?

It's funny because their terms say "must buy for the entire cruise - this offer is not offered on a per day basis."

That's just to avoid people buying it only for sea days.

What drinks I bought on day one I just paid for as I went, but yes once you buy it it's for the rest of the cruise.

We just returned from a 7 day cruise on the Carnival Dream- and purchased 2 Cheers programs. My husband & I are not big drinkers, but we figured we could try lots of different drinks and it would be worth it. Well, we had 30 drinks a day total and the highest day we hit 20 drinks, most days we only had 14 between the 2 of us! Between having to wait at the bar for 15 minutes to get a drink and then being in port 4 out of the 7 days, we just didn't use the service. The drinks also seemed very Watered down and double shots are not included. Only way to ever get a buzz was with beer- which we did on day 6!

Many of the martini's at the piano bar as well as Long Island Iced Teas and variations thereof that are available will give you much more of a buzz because of the high alcohol percentage in those drinks. It's always better to get your drinks at any bar besides those on the Lido deck. Sometimes the popular drinks are pre-made and just poured into your glass over ice. I saw this first hand on our Breeze cruise and never went back to the Rum Bar on the Lido deck again.

Is now limited to 2 bottles per cabin. Just got off the phone with them. :( We were trying to determine if it would be more cost effective to do this rather than the Cheers program--but at 2 bottles per cabin, I'm afraid we'd run out too soon! Sad to say... :)

Just Curious...how do they track your 15 drinks? It sounds like they are dong the sticker just like the bubbles program, so wondering how it all plays out.

It is all tracked in the computer system...They know exactly how many you have had each day.

Sailed the Dream on 04/06/13...Purchased Cheers for my wife and I. Very much worth it for us. I LOVED the freedom of choosing different drinks and wines and not worrying about cost...(always stayed under $10 drink limit)

I did not have to purchase bubbles for my kids. Cheers included all non-alcoholic drinks (didn't count towards limit)...even Pina Coladas, Daiquiris etc... with no alcohol. No questions asked. The ONLY nuisance was that you have to wait 5 minutes between drinks...Even if they were non-alcoholic.

I could NOT get a glass of orange juice however in the evening...My daughter likes OJ before bed and I was surprised it wasn't included. They would, however, let me order creatively with the 2 cheers cards. One Crown Royal and Coke in a double glass and one Crown Royal and OJ...with the CR shot in a separate shot glass, which I in turn added to the CR and coke. Then they would fill the rest of the glass up with coke in few minutes. CRAZY, but it worked.

Thanks Davey! I've heard mixed reports that the 15 was just a "check point" to see if you were too sloshed to continue serving. Would you say that based on your experiences? Or it's a "hard line" cut off? Also, did you even fill your 15 day max? We are having a hard time remembering how many drinks we actually consume a day on average. (Bad sign? :) )

Sorry...Never made it to 15. I was told at the casino bar very late one night that I had just ordered my 14th. Never found out what would have happened if I ordered a couple more.

It's a hard line cut off at 15 for the Cheers program. A memo went out right around Christmas time so that all of the ships that are participating would be on the same page. What they are not on the same page about, though is whether or not you can purchase drink number 16 and pay regular price for it or if you're cut off at 15. There have been conflicting reports about this on the boards. There is a solution....cruise on Celebrity, there is no 15 drink limit with their program. :)
