Does the casino stay open at Labadee?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at a cruise compass FOS Western 3/20/12, Labadee Haiti.

Casino Royale:

slots: 1pm - late

tables: 4:00 pm - late

I think they only close it if local laws require.

Apparently no such laws in Haiti.

It was open on both the Explorer and Enchantment while docked at Labadee. Just not as early as it is usually open. I know, because I usually stay on the ship and it is nice and quiet while everyone else is on the island. Could play almost any machine I wanted. ;)

Hmmm, I need to see if I can find a Compass from our cruise on Navigator last March.
Typically, the casinos are open during the day at both CocoCay and Labadee. On our most recent trip to Labadee, the casino opened at noon for slots.

Wow, interesting. I always thought the casino closed while in any port.
Most frequently, yes, always no. They are open at the private "islands", and sometimes at other ports when the ship stays into the evening. e.g. The Bahamas for Majesty/Monarch. They also used to be open before departure when RCI ships stayed at Aruba until 10PM.

Maybe I just went through the casino too early the last time that we were in Labadee and didn't realize that it would open later. I guess the local governments don't care as it isn't as if you can go off and spend money with the locals as at regular island ports of call.

speaking of the casino

What table games are offered and what are the table minimum? Freedom of the Seas

Just about any common table game you see in land based casinos (blackjack, craps, roulette, 3 card poker, let it ride, single deck BJ pays 6:5....etc).

The minimums vary. You can almost always find a $10 table. RCCL has low limit BJ tables at slow times. They are $6 minimum. That's annoying, but I suppose it keeps them from making change with quarters and also most people probably just bet $10 anyway because it's easier. So RCCL artificially raises the table minimums with that move. Smart.

The hours were the same when we were on Freedom the end of December.

On our radiance New Zealand cruise they had $3 blackjack. Perfect for me as otherwise my very small gambling budget wouldn't allow me to stay for long. The table minimum was $5 and if you bet less than $5 blackjack was 2to1 instead 2.5to1.

If it goes up to $6 I will be limited to the amount I can play. If I get big my heart beats too fast and my partner gives me lectures about wasting money.

Haha, I know what you mean about the pounding!

Just to clarify, BJ normally pays 3:2 (or 1.5:1). That means a $10 bet would pay $15. Sometimes the casino is sneaky and pays 6:5 on BJ. $10 would pay $12. Many (most?) people are okay with this and figure "Hey, I"m on vacation, no big deal, it's just a few bucks...". They don't realize (or care) about the huge advantage this now gives the casino. They already have a nice advantage, but this is just silly. Anyway, as people continue to play with these rules, it becomes more prevalent.

Just a little lesson for anyone who is interested in maximizing their odds. Good luck!

Yeah your right it was 3to2 for the normal bet of $5. I got my numbers mixed up. That's prob why I didn't win at blackjack! I never won on the slots they seemed very tight at paying out!

I like to take $20 per night and see how long it lasts. If I get it to $40 I go home and take the $40 the next day.

I am too scared to get big.

Thanks. So 3 card and let it ride are normally $10, that's $30 a hand. Might not last very long!!!

Hi! My Dad won't be getting off the ship and loves the casino. Will the casino be open in Labadee?

On Jan 6, 2013 FOS Casino hours were: slots 1:00PM - late, and tables: 4:00PM - late. BTW, All Aboard was at 3:30PM.

In a search engine, search for the name of your ship followed by Cruise Compass. I was able to find one for the itinerary I will be taking in a few months.
