Celebrity smoking policy "yeay"

I've been on five cruises with RCCL.........we avoided sooooo many public rooms because of smokers... :( .....I was "one" "but a polite smoker, never around non-smokers and children" I quit before my cruising started. We chose our next cruise on Celebrity after reading the smoking policy, just wondering if most of you chose Celebrity for the same reason????

More important, do the cruisers adhere to the policy??? I'm more worried about sitting on my veranda (first time, usually inside cabins on my other cruises) and having to hold my breath because the next veranda has smokers that don't believe in rules.

I'm soooo excited to be cruising again, I rarely went to the formal night because on our first cruise my beaded dress was ruined by a smoker while leaving the dining room, I had a cigarette hole toward the lower back of the dress.............never wanted to wear "good" clothes on cruises again. Even though we're not cruising till 2014, I already have my wardrobe picked out, yes I know that'll change often before the cruise but after 14 years of not cruising I'm soooo ready. :p

rules are no smoking in rooms or veranda. if someone is smoking on veranda and you are affected, report it. They have smoking area on top deck. My husband quit before our first cruise. He thought he was going to get to smoke on our veranda, until we read otherwise.

Smoking is alowed on Deck 5 portside so if you have a cabin on at least deck six portside you may smell smoke drifting up. ( and perhaps higher on that side) Check the deck plans to see which cabins are directly above that outdoor smoking area - if you have a forward cabin it might not be a problem.

Hey, congratulations on stopping smoking! Good for you! And yes, the lack of smoking is THE major reason we like Celebrity. There are all sorts of other reasons we like it, but that is huge for us. If you search "smoking" or something similar you'll see what passengers have posted about finding smokers next door and what they did about it. I personally wouldn't stand for it and would be howling about it nonstop until it did stop! :D With so many lines to choose from it's ridiculous to come on Celebrity and try to smoke where it isn't allowed.

We just got off the Reflection and were right above the deck 5 smoking section.....never had a problem -and we spent a lot of time on the balcony!

Where we had the problem was deck 14 where you had to walk through the smoking section to get to the pool!

I was originally attracted to Celebrity because of all of the positive reviews about the ships, food and service. I found all of this to be true, and when I learned about their non smoking policy on board, I was thrilled! It's one more reason I will continue sailing with Celebrity.

YES……… we chose Celebrity because of the nonsmoking policy.

We are now interested in a Hawaii cruise that does not have 10 sea days. Celebrity has a great one but it ends or starts in Ensenada. That is something that we will not consider and are at a loss to figure out why Celebrity continues to do that itinerary. I found the perfect Hawaii cruise to suit our needs on RCI and we were even willing to tolerate the lackluster food. The problem was the smoking policy. RCI will not have us as customers until that changes. As we have completed 32 cruises, we obviously have business to give to a cruise line. Right now, that business is going to Princess and Celebrity.

Celebrity does that itinerary because they are forced to by US law, nothing they can do about it.

We choose Celebrity due to the smoking policy. Of course, it is nice that it is a "step above" the majority of the mainstream marketplace. We would be more open to other lines (HAL, RCCL, etc.) if their policies were more stringent.

Sure there is....just do a "service" call like the other lines do. Who wants to take a bus to Ensenada or worse, take a bus back to the US after the cruise?

Well, it's not the only reason we tend to book with Celebrity....but it plays a big part. I have never encountered a problem with folks smoking where they are not supposed to....does it happen...sure...I recall a couple times I have walked down corridors and smelled smoke emanating from cabins somewhere...but have never experienced a "rude" passenger smoking on a balcony.

I do...I do....Did it this past fall, and would do it again tomorrow...Nice ride down the coast at sunset...wonderful itinerary without having to do a "round-trip", and then allows for more time spent in Hawaii post-cruise !!

No that is incorrect -- Service calls are only for closed loops -- R/T from SD or LA. For one ways the only way to transport between two U.S. ports is to take a short swing down to South America to visit a distant foreign port - not going to happen! :)

It has been years since smoking was alowed in many areas of a cruise ship. On RCCL two weeks ago the only place we were bothered by smoking was in the casino and since we don't gamble ist happened only when we had to go through the casino to get to the dinning room. We could of avoiding it but held our breath instead. Years ago you could smoke anywhere including the dinning room.

We don't cruise the =X= just because of their smoking policy, although it's a definite selling point. On one of our cruises, we were talking to the head housekeeper, when she got a call about a smoker on a veranda, she quickly advised one of her staff to confront the passenger and make them aware of the fine they are going to get. Most of the veranda smoking was dicontinued several years ago after a few fires were started by "stray" cigarettes/cigars. I believe they ignited towels, etc that were hung out to dry. ( another issue entirely)

Couldn't you have walked to the pool on the starboard side to avoid the smoking area?

We sail on Celebrity for longer cruises and Royal Caribbean for shorter cruises. The reason we do is that we just can't risk being several days on a balcony beside chronic smokers.

When we were on Liberty of the Seas in January we had two severely addicted smokers right beside us who smoked day and night. Either one or both were on their balcony almost the entitre cruise. It was amazing. we had no idea two people could smoke so much.

As a life-long asthmatic, I just can't take the chance on a long cruise of being beside such addicted smokers, so we gladly sail Celebrity to be assured of pure ocean air on our balcony.

Every time we sail on Royal I write my thoughts on the Customer Comments sheet about balcony smoking. So far, our efforts have done no good. WE are just two passengers, though. I don't think Royal will change until many, many more passengers complain.

We did our first RCCL cruise in January and were surprised that while smoking is not allowed in the rooms it is allowed on the balconies. Unfortunately the passengers in the cabin next door were heavy smokers utilized their balcony for it.

I'm a smoker and far prefer the Celebrity smoking policy---you can't even go thru the casinos on some other lines without a gas mask on----and smoking on a balcony as close as they are would just be rude

Our cruisemates on Celebrity are smokers and we choose to sit with them in smoking areas, albeit they are either oudoors, or in very well ventilated indoor areas.

Having cruising withdrawal symtoms in late november, we booked a B2B on Carnival Conquest as it went to areas that Celebrity doesn't visit often on 7 or 14 day cruises, Bahamas, Key West and a couple of other specialy ports.

While the cruisports and other aspects of the cruises were quite enjoyable, we must emphatically state that we will never take another Carnival Cruise because of their smoking policies.

Having half of the tables and slots in the Casino with a small label that says "smoking is permitted at this table, or at this machine" is like saying that "peeing is permitted at this end of the pool". It doesn't work.

By 9:00 pm, the whole Casino has a smoke haze and reeks of smoke and its wide open to the shops and common areas. You can smell the smoke in all the elevators and hallways.

On top of that, children and non-smokers have to walk through the smoking areas to get to the Dining room, shops, lobby, and other public areas of the ship.

The only option is to go outside to go from one end to another.

Ou next two cruises are back on Celebrity and I hope Celebrity keeps its limited smoking areas.

The smoking policy is one of the biggest reasons I prefer to cruise with Celebrity. I've had several cruises in the past where I had limited use of my balcony due to smokers. With Celebrity I don't have to worry about this. I can't wait for May when I head to Alaska aboard Century!

The smoking policy is one of the reasons why I switched from HAL to X.

My 1st sailing on HAL smoking was actually allowed in cabins and I believe on verandahs. Then they made their cabins all non-smoking which was great, but they didn't make the verandahs the same, so basically I'm afraid to book HAL because I like using my verandah, so I went in search of the policy on X and, voila.

This year will mark my 3rd X cruise, so needless to say, I've developed a love for the ships :-) (S class anyway). This year will be my first M Class. No flight though, so I had to see what it was about.

I figure 2 weeks on a ship on vacation is still going to beat 2 weeks on land at work! :-)
