Sapphire or Turtle Cove

You cant really compare those two options. A trip to Turtle Cove is a sail boat snorkel excursion and Sapphire would be a taxi and beach day. Both are great ways to spend the day but its really a matter of do you want to spend a few hours sailing and snorkeling OR would you rather take a taxi tour of the island and then lay on the beach and do some snorkeling.

icon_cool.gifIslander, thank you for all of your fabulous advice on this board. I had the pleasure of staying on St. Thomas for a week a couple of years ago. We absolutely loved it, and will definitely be back for a longer stay.

My question: On Sapphire Beach is there concessions that rent umbrellas, etc. to the public, ie, non-resort guests?

Hello Got2Cruise, Yes Sapphire has a bar/restaurant, a little store, a watersports booth with kayaks, parasailing options, windsurfing, jet skis... and they also have a beach attendant right outside the booth with chairs. I don't remember seeing umbrellas. If not then stick to the right side under the seagrape trees for shade.

Is snorkeling better at Sapphire or Coki beach? Thanks for any information. And do you know if the taxi company has vans - there are 7 of us, or should we rent something. I assume there are vans for rent?

icon_biggrin.gifThank you for the advice. We will go to Sapphire Beach this time around. We have been to Magen's Bay, and want to try something a little more quiet. We absolutely adored St. John but we feel it might be too stressful when the ferry is involved and you need to get back to the ship om time.

To Bucky3, all the taxis are vans or those large open safari type vehicles. They even pick you up from the airport in those open safaris even though there is the usual 15 minute daily shower.

Thank you all for your opinions, it looks like either one will be a great choice, so I guess I'll just put them both in a hat and pick one. Can't wait till next month!!

Got 2 Cruise,

If quieter is what you are looking for you might try Secret Harbor; nice beach, good snorkeling, nice beach bar and restaurant. A bit further away though.

Bucky 3,

There are taxis in cars, mini van, large vans, safari buses... the safairs can fit 20+ people your group is fine.
